Service tracking system light comes on - 2008 Chevrolet Impala

The Traction Control & Stability is a part of the anti lock brake system When these lights come on there has been a failure code set in the computer for a circuit failure.

This can be a sensor problem sometimes or a calibration change for the computer.You should have your local GM dealer check these systems for failures. These 2 systems work together through the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module).

The service engine light does not affect the abs.You most likely have a broken wire in your abs system which is affected by suspension movement.A code reader which does abs codes will tell you which wheel circuit is turning on the abs light.When there is no abs available the track will turn off.

When these lights come on this indicates the systems control module has detected a fault in the signal or signals of most likely one of the 4 wheel speed sensors (most common reason for this scenario). What must be done now is to have the system scanned with a diagnostic scanner to see what fault code is present in memory, this is the beginning of the diagnosis required to repair the problem.

the traction control system works off of the abs system so there is a code in the abs module that needs to be pulled so you know were to start to check the system out.the service engine light is a different system all together and there is a code in the ecm that must be pulled so you know were to start to check to repair that system.you don`t say why you jumped to the conclusion that the gas cap set a code.the emergency brake light will come on if the e-brake is not all the way in the off position(something may be holding the lever up just enough to put the light on.the switch could be misadjusted and needs to e readjusted.

most of these systems are directly connected to the odometer to get you to have regular service. the car will go into "limp mode" and have noticably less power if something is really wrong. Unless you are very mechanically inclined, you should have regular service

I had the same problem! It also affected the ABS system on my Rendezvous. The service tech finally determined it to me a wire attached to the ABS system that had pulled loose and when I turned corners it would short. They replaced the wireing harness and solved the problem! Good Luck!

When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the Check Engine, Service Engine Soon, ABS Or TC lights to tell you that there is a problem and you should have the car diagnosed and repaired. I would take it to a service center you trust and let then come up with a solution. Sometimes a problem in one system will turn light on for other systems that communicate with it, but it doesn't mean there is a problem in all of the systems.

Sounds like a problem in the ABS system. Certain problem in the ABS system will disable the traction system. You will need to have the compue\ters scanned for codes in order to find out what part of the system is having a problem.
