might be that you accidentally disconnected the crank sensor close to the transmission, this gives a no start condition without a check engine light on most cars...
Not sure I am following your story. Are you saying the transmission is slipping and therefore the RPM is high even tho the road speed is not ? Or is the transmission not upshifting to the next gear at a normal road speed ? Is the check engine light on ?
I have the same problem with my harrier 3000cc car. We have changed the idling sensor, airflow sensor. air filter, we have had the throttle checked, spark plugs, wiring and nothing works. The smell you are getting could be from your gear box, have it checked out early and if the gear shift is noticeable then you will need a gearbox specialist to open it and change the clutch plates. Good luck.
What kind of spark plugs did you put in it? The 4.0 litre engines in these trucks require PLATINUM spark plugs. If you put the wrong ones ( regular copper) it will miss fire and run like a bag of garbage. I had a similar problem with mine, the previous owners said "oh we changed the plugs and wires". They also changed the ignition coil not long before I took delivery. So, truck still ran like **** they said they even had to reset the inertia switch under the passenger side kick panel, everyone thought it was a fuel problem. I decided to pull one plug and volia..Wrong plugs. That also explains why they had to change the ignition coil. Hope this helps.
see if all of the spark plug wires are attached, if so the replace the spark plugs, if not that then replace the spark plug wires, and last replace the distribution cap
stop shifting so hard. your reverse gear is the same exact gear as your first, so if you shift hard and grind that gear a little then reverse will be harder to get into. you probably need your transmission rebuilt the harder your engine has to work the more its going to bogg down
You need an impulse sender that is located in the distributor. It is easier to get a used one from a wrecking yard and install the whole distributor. Am I right in assuming your rpm gauge is fluctuating up and down rapidly? On your transmission problem, you can try cleaning the overdrive solenoid located on the back of the bell housing near the main linkage. Sometimes that helps with the delayed shifting problems.
