SOURCE: 1994 ford ranger extended cab 6 cyl fuel injected 2 wheel drive automatic

This year of ranger had a few flaws, In one case, a break power booster was robbing the vacumm, you can test this by plugging it off and seeing the differance, but you will have limited brakes. This model year had a problem with a vacuum leak on the manifold. You can check these in many ways, but please don't use starting fluid. The rear of the manifold usually on the drivers side where it seals to the block.
Also, in 2 other cases a cracked head has gave me the same problem. It is caused from a loss of vacuum.

SOURCE: 1985 ford F150 is running very rich. (choke is

When you say it's destroying the air filter---do you mean it's all sooted up ?? I am assuming that what you mean.
Try disconnecting the vacuum line at the egr valve and see if that helps.
But it sounds more like a plugged up exhaust system.Try disconnecting or looosing the flange before the cataylic convertor and then see how it runs.

Do you have a check engine light? If so, go to an auto parts store and have them scan for a code.

Does a 1989 ford f-250 truck have a chock or not?

Unless it is a Canadian version, it is fuel injected, and has no choke. If it is a gasoline engine and has TBI (as opposed to multi-port injection), it does have a "cold injector" (which acts like a choke).

1989 silverado 2500 wont start after it has been run a distance on the highway it just acts choked up and smokes black as it is trying to clear out

If this is a gas operated vehicle with injectors it would be strange. But if it has a TBI system then something is causing a fault so it dumps fuel and floods the engine. If this has a Rochester 4 barrel your float is faulty or the needle and seat is sticking open and dumping fuel and causing this. There is also 1 other thing that can do this and if it has a carb, it could also be the butterfly or thottle plate at the top of the carb closing from vacuum. make sure the hoses if any are connected to the choke system, and or any wire that feeds electrical current to the choke. Unless someone rebuilt it and did not correctly reassemble it. or put the choke spring on the wrong side of the notch for the upper butterfly. Then this would close the butterfly as it warms up and then choke the engine..never know..could have been a monday or friday....good luck

The air intake valve/choke on carberator/ fuel block will not funtion properly , open up, it is continuely closed chokeing no air intake, there is a vacume line not connected, on this carb, does it control...

Firstly, if it's fuel injected, there is no choke. That cold start mode is actuated by the computer. IF it has a carb on it, the choke is opened a little to keep it running with a vacuum line connected from the choke dashpot to the carb base when cold till warm-up, then a heat spring pulls the choke full open. Your gonna have to make up your mid as to whether it fuel injection or natural aspiration with a carburetor.

Why does it run funny when its cold?

It sounds like the choke is not closing all the way when it should be. There may be a sensor that has gone bad. The sensor tells the choke when it needs to close the choke all the way and or open it. You might ask about that. if you have a carburetor and it is not fuel injected the you can adjust the choke your self. Let me know and i will help you do that. In the mean time check your air filter too and see if it is clean. Raz

My 1989 ford bronco 5.8L engine starts but if I turn it off when it is hot it cranks but takes awhile to start again

Three things to look at. You didnt say if it was carb or injected. If it has a carb then most likely the fuel in the carb bowl is leaking down and causes it to start hard. Or the choke is closing/sticking and causing same. Also look at the heat shield that goes between the starter and the exhaust. It may be gone and when the starter gets hot it wont work as well.

I have a 1989 Ford F-150 with a 302 engine fuel injected

Does that engine have a TPS (throttle position sensor)? If so, disconnect it from the engine and connect an ohmmeter to it, to check for jumps or bad spots at any position, from throttle closed to throttle wide open ... of course, with the engine OFF! There is a possibility that you have "slow" fuel injectors (meaning they may be gummed-up, so they react too slow to pulse width changes. But that could be cured by running a can of Seafoam through the tank, as long as the injectors are not damaged or leaking. Check the fuel pressure at the injector rails (if in fact it uses fuel injectors, which I don't actually know). It might have a carburetor, at that age. If so, how is the choke linkage ... perhaps stiff?
