I have a 91 Chevy 1500 4 wheel drive! If I select any gear it will not go into gear! If input it in 4 wheel low or high and get under truck I can turn the transfer case shaft and it will lock into gear! I can then start the truck and put into reverse and it will go into gear! But when I put it in 2 wheel drive it will not lock in even when I get under truck and turn the transfer case shaft! I can go from reverse to drive in 4 wheel after I get it locked in from under neath and it will not go in! I can put the truck in neutral in four wheel drive get under truck while it is not running get the transfer case shaft to lock in and crank the truck and it will go into gear! All except 2 wheel high it will not do anything

did you turn the locks on the wheels, or check the fuses

2 speed electric shift transfer case problems #1 jack up truck place on 4 jack stands. Start and select 4 high position in drive release brake ad watch front driveshaft does it turn "yes" problem is axle actuator on passenger side of differential not engaging axle shaft. "no" apply brakes bring to a stop engage low range does low range work "yes" internal transfer case problems "no" electric transfer case shifting motor failure.

check on the frontend, some of the chevys have an electricl controlled vaccum actuator that locks the frontend in, it will be close to the punkin. if the vaccum line is off or has a hole in it, it will not engauge in 4 wheel drive. hope this helps

so the front driveshaft turns in 4 low? or you just feeling gear reduction in 4 low?if the front drive shaft will not turn in 4 or 4low then suspect a shift fork broken. when i say turn i mean under engine power.

try selecting from nutreul or less then 3km

Did you remember to put the truck in neutral before 4lo this is the only way I have ever been able to get it in.

You say 'new' truck, 09? or new used? I have had 3 Fords, 3 w/ manual trans. case, if you go into 4x4 Low range, you must come to a complete stop before shifting the trans. case to 4x4 mode, and I always put trans (automatic) in neutral before slipping into 4x4, it engages smoothly, no grinding. 4x4 high range can be put in while moving, but I would let off the gas pedal, shift to 4x4 high range, then resume accelerating. If there is any grinding going on doing it as above, something isn't right. Check the trans. case fluid level also, to make sure that's not an issue.

It depends on if it is an automatic or manual, 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, but I would say no more than 5,000 lbs. just to be on the safe side

That’s what engages the front diff into 4wd.
