You have a bad oil pressure sending unit, or bad lead connection to the sensor.
Try to have the engine scanned like at Auto Zone free of charge and they can confirm if it is the sending unit and they can give you the how to instruction's to replacing it.
Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help and the part not that expensive

82474 oil pressure gauge was installed with sender 279A and operates. But it pretty much stays buried at 80 psi. It's a 1969 GTX 440. I either have a high volume oil pump or is there a gauge problem?

The first thing to do is check the pressure with a mechanical gage to see if the pressure is that high. Then you can rule out the pump or other problems.

Oil pressure gauge goes to zero and check engine light comes on but oil pressure is fine

If the oil pressure switch shows zero, how do you know its fine? If the oil level is correct in the engine, it may be a faulty wire / connection or it could be that the oil pump is failing

Check oil light stays on

Your vehicle may have an "oil level" sensor built into the oil pan. If so, and the sensor is bad, the dash will constantly tell you that the engine needs more oil even if it does not. Checking the oil with the dipstick, a minute after the engine has been turned off on level ground is always the best way to check your oil. Try scanning the vehicles computer systems to see if there are any fault codes. The warning light may also be on a timer that just needs to be reset. The "Check Oil" light should be separate from the engine oil pressure warning light. As long as the engine oil pressure light stays off, you should be ok. Checking the oil pressure with a manual gauge would be a good idea as well.

Oil pressure

Remove the oil sender unit and fit a pressure gauge , start the engine and check pressure, seems odd the oil light and pressure gauge both showed a fault at the same time, perhaps the oil pump relief valve stuck open for a short time.

Oil pressure gauge goes to 80 and stays

Another gauge needs to be connected to the car to check that oil pressure sensor or the gauge itself is not the problem.

If an independent gauge shows the same readings I would suspect a sticking oil pressure relief valve.

whistling noise is prob. intake leak or emmissions air flow problem, the oil gauge, is either , oilpump screen clogged, or gauge prob. or if a lot of miles it could be the engine is just getting weak, or oil pump itself. check oil level, and sensor for leaks .

On my 93 Dodge Caravan ES 3.3L, when it comes to a stop and idles (at a light mostly) the check gauges light comes on. When the check gauges light comes on the oil gauge is at the bottom. When I tap...

Okay What it means is that the oil in your car is either low in level or the oil pressure at low revolutions is low. I highly recommend you to stop driving the car when this happen because you can internally damage the engine with a low oil or a low pressure of oil. Check the oil level first..make sure level is fine and oil looks good. Black and burned oil will give you a low oil pressure as well. If it happen that your car need a oil change. Make sure you get it done and see if the problem goes away. Very rarely oils pressure sensor goes bad but if oil is new and level is fine you can take the oil pressure sensor and connect a tester for a oil pressure. If this is not under the manufacturer specifications.. oil pump is worn out and you have to replace it for a new one.
Good luck and don't forget to rte me. Thanks
