I'm told and read a sun shell may be broke. Common problem for this vehicle. Shop will possibly rebuild and use aftermarket kit parts to correct problems the transmission had originally. Cost is probably between $1300 to 1600 to repair. Good luck I got the same problem on a 97 Jimmy and 3 shops said the same thing.

switch the fuel pump relay with another on in the realy box. see if you hear the pump come on when you turn the key on (should run for 2 seconds) if not, have someone rap on the bottom center of fuel tank while you are trying to start the truck if it starts, the pump is bad and you will need to replace it. if you hear the pump run and is doesnt start, it may be a spark problem , verify if you have spark. this engine needs 58-62 PSI fuel pressure, if it has 55PSI, its not going to run.

I have a 2001 gmc sierra 2500 HD and when it is cool outside it runs fine, but on hot weather the truck stalls and sometime wont start and this is when the gas is on 1/4, and when we keep the gas tank at a 1/2 it runs fine other than that when you stop at a red light or stop sign and you start to leave it takes offf slowly and its about to shut off and you pump the gas slowly it will slowly start to take off and then when it does runs fine until you stop again. what is my problem with this truck?
