Grinding noise from right rear tire. took tires off and inspected all brakes and pads, all good, done last year. Noise was only audible when braking but weeks later was continuous. i suspect wheel bearings but only got the wheel off before i was stumped. my resident mechanic is unavailable.

SOURCE: 2001 monte carlo ss. Rear wheel bearings making a grinding noise

It is pretty easy, there is not much labor involved if it has anti-lock brakes in the rear you will also have to un-plug the wire harness attached to hubs.

SOURCE: road noise / front end vibration

The noise you're hearing is consistent with a bad wheel bearing. It's true, the only way to actually tell is to pull the hub/bearing. I'd try to isolate what side of the car the noise is coming from and pull that wheel. If it's not a wheel bearing, it could be transmission related but these things are usually solved by replacing the wheel bearing.

SOURCE: 1998 chevy cavalier 2.2l wheel noise

usually if noise is made when turning right it would be the right wheel bearing easiest way to check would be to lift the car off the ground on that side until tire clears the ground and spin the wheel to see if it makes noise also try grabbing the wheel on the top and bottom at the same time and see if you can move the wheel back and forth checking for slack.

SOURCE: 2000 monte carlo / noise from rear wheels

That's what it sounds like to me also. I would put the rear up on jack stands and spin the wheels to male shure wich side it is. Don't forget to block the front wheels for safety as you will not be able to set your e- brake for this test.

SOURCE: I have a grinding/scraping noise when driving

Good Evening, those noises can be annoying and sometimes hard to find. However it sounds like you have a front hub assembly going bad. Usually the noise goes away when you veer one direction or the other. I have heard some transfer case noises but they usually do not go away on turns. Check those front hub-wheel bearing assemblies and see what you come up with. Hope this points you in the right direction.

Why noise in car when pressing on gas pedal grinding

It's the car pulling to that side? Sticking brake pad possible. When did you have brakes done last off at all? Front brakes go out twice as fast as rear brakes. If you can Charlie jack up that side put car in park, set emergency brake and chock rear tires. Pull off that tire and see if rotor is grooved or scored badly. It may have been sticking and wore down faster. Also check CV BOOT. If torn u joints get dirty and will grind. Hope this was some help.

Mazda grinding while braking.

Hi, i would chk your rotor on the wheel your hearing the noise from. Sounds like a brake pad has worn out and is chewing your rotor. That can cause all your issues. Hope that helps

Sound like tire scrubbing and grinding on right front 2004 ford explorer

Get your brakes inspected - the grinding noise may be the front disc brake pads, which have worn out. Several national chains offer free estimates for brake repairs. They will also check the other front end components, which could be causing the noise.
Hope this helps...

Drum brakes causing intermittent grinding noise

Sounds like one of the springs that hold the rear brakes in place broke. Jack her up, pop off the tire, remove the drum and take a look. If you need to see what a good one looks like, look on the other side.

This is not a very common problem, but I saw it last year on a 69 chevelle.

Good Luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

I have a 1993 Volvo I purchased new almost 17

Could be tire noise, could be rear wheel bearing, differential (if rear wheel driven), or could be something associated with the brake.

Try swapping the tire with another tire. If the noise moves with the tire, it's the tire. If it stays, it's brakes (unlikely for the noise you mention), rear wheel bearing, or rear differential (lack of oil). Will probably need to have a mechanic to identify and repair.

Left turns and sometimes right turns, grinding noise

No. Low brake fluid won't cause your brakes to grind. It wont hurt to check the fluid level though. Yes, it is something you should be concerned about. When they replaced your tires, did they say anything to you about the brakes? Most shops will take a look at the thickness of the brake pads especially since they already have the wheels off and that just happens to be the best possible oppertunity to check the brakes for wear! Did you have the noise before the tires were replaced and if so did you mention it to the shop? It is possible that it is a wheel bearing but it is more likely that it is the brakes. The only way to tell for sure is to have it inspected.

Rear wheel/brake noise

first check condition of discs and pads if all is good drive and pull up handbrake slowly to see if its the handbrake shoes making the noise if still a problem will most probably be rear wheel bearings
