1997 Camaro SS, the converible top will not lock in the up position. It gets about 2 inches away, even when you pull down you can not get the roof to latch. I went out of town for a few weeks and left the top down, did this cause the issue ?

Yes. When left in the convertible position the top seems to shrink a little. Have someone to push the top up button while you pull down on the top and try to latch one side. Passenger side usually works for me. After that you can latch the driver side. The less you leave the top in the boot the better.

SOURCE: Doors/Locks

Pull drivers rear door panel off
1. Remove door lock solenoid and plug it into another door to see if it works
2. If you can reach inside the door to the final mechanism that everything pushes on, push it yourself to see if it works
3. Also look on side of door for possible child saftey lock switch

SOURCE: what cause this code

The code P1441 sets when the vacuum check switch detects a vacuum in the EVAP System when the purge solenoid is supposed to be closed.
Check for carbon contamination in the purge solenoid and vac sensor. The charcoal canister can fail and contaminate these components. Replace the canister or repeat failure will ensure.

Follow the purge hose until you find the canister, most likely Your 96 F body should be hiding in behind the left rear fender well. Remove the purge solenoid and lightly tap it onto a clean white towel. The carbon should show up and in most cases once the canister is replaced, the original solenoid can be reinstalled.

Good luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: automatic latch closer stopped working 1991 camaro

Okay I had the same problem and what ya do is take that little mechanism apart and there will be a plastic gear inside, if those teeth on that gear are sheered then that is your problem and you can pick that gear up at the nearst chevy house for about $5.00, I am just telling you this becous buying the hole thing will run between $350.00 and $400.00 bucks. if that isn't your problem though then it is a short somewhere or loose wire. Good Luck and hope this helps.

07 Convertible

This is easy, first locate the top button on the center console but do not push yet, next the lever on the front off the top, reach your right hand up and grab lever and pull down and twist counter clock wise to unlock it, you may feel roof pop up a little then with roof unlocked push handle back into its slot, next is push button and hold, the roof will start to open and the trunk will start to open and the roof will store away i the trunk,, make sure trunk is empty at first use, then with the top down and trunk closed you are done, open the trunk just to look inside to see where the top goes, this is to make sure nothing gets in the way of the roof, i cant remember if area is blocked off or not but this is a good idea just so you know.
To close the roof you hit and hold the button and roof will come out of the trunk area automaticlly the roof will end up closed all you do is pull lever down then pull on lever to close roof all the way untwist lever and it will go into lock, you will feel this, once it is in the lock groove you will twist lever to the right to lock it, with it locked you then push lever back into its slot. good day

How to replace headlight on a 1997 chevey camaro

You will need a torx wrench to be able to replace your headlights. There is bracket that hold your headlights on. Unscrew the 4 screws (2 on the bottom and 2 on the top) of the bracket and pull the bracket off. Disconnect the wires from the old bulb.
Once you get the new bulb screwed in make sure to check the level located on the bracket is at it's optimal position.

1997 Explorer Hood is not completly closed to

Sat on the hood and pulled the outside hood release lever. The air filter case was causing the air supply hose to the intake to hit on the bottom of the hood. Looking from the side of the fender, you could see that the air filter case and hose was above the fender causing the obstruction. Pulled air filter case away from fender monut 1/2 inch and had hood clearance.

Replace door skin on 1996 camaro

I see this was asked years ago but never answered. So for the future questions about this,
The doors and roof panels on 4th Gen F-bodies are SMC (Sheet Molded Compound), a form of fiberglass. The skin is glued on. To remove a glued on panel use either a heat gun or a plumbers torch (Map Gas). Heating around the skin where the panel is bonded to the inner structure will break down the adhesive. Be careful not to burn the SMC away in a fire (heat guns are safer than the torch). Where you start, insert a putty knife to lightly pry the skin off as you heat the area.

Convertible top will not retrack

Hi Stan

First of all the roof is not even soppose to operate while the trunk is open - So there is the first problem Ive been involved with BMW's for a long time and this is the first Ive heard of a roof opening while the trunk is open. There is a built in feature that tells the car not to open the roof if the trunk is open and the other way roung while the roog lid is open the trunk cant open.

The reason the roof is not working anymore as soon as there is stress on the roof the electric motors(One operates the roof and the other operates the roof lid)  disengages, You said that the roof still worked but the lid did not so probably only the one motor disengaged. So what you have to do is open the trunk on the left hand side right behind the tail light pull away the material and simply just push the electric motor into place. that should fix your problem.

It may happen that the two motors have become out of sync, Disengage both electric motors manualy put the roof away engage the motors and that should put the roof and lid back into sync.
