Car was driving fine, yesterday came out from work, middle of the afternoon. The car started find, and as i started to drive through the parking lot all the electrical stuff flashed on and off then the whole car died. It would not restart. Today I cleaned the battery posts; now the car starts and idles, but if you put it into drive or try and drive it the engine sputters and dies.

I think that your crank angle sensor failed. Is the check engine light on?? if so, scan it and get code. If the code is P0335, than you need new crank angle sensor. Nissan has been having some problems with those even on other Nissan products. (Altima, Pathfinder and so on) Good luck.

Sounds like the alternator is badly damaged. The alternator will drain the battery if the regulutor or diode assembly goes out and/or the alternator is seized or locking up, which will cause the smoke (belt slippage) and drag on the engine (rough idle).
