Having windshield wiper/washer problems? Here are some more common problems.

  • Motor:
The wiper motor is commonly replaced and was often not the problem. Don't replace the motor yet. maybe it's not the motor. It could be a fuse or something at the wiper switch. The wiper motor has two windings, fast and slow. The wiper switch sends a ground signal to each motor winding. More often, there are problems with the relay, or at the wiper switch, or in the cable to the motor.
  • Windshield Washer:
Don't be too quick to replace the washer pump. The problem is often just a clog in the sprayer heads. You can clean out the sprayer holes with a needle, some have two holes, so look closely. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 96 ford tarus turn signal

The turn signals and the emergency flasher are controled by a single electronic flasher unit. It looks like an electronic relay and is located on the far left underside of the dash. It is on a mounting bracket and has a three wire connector. If you do not hear this clicking when you use the turn signals or the emergency flasher it may be bad. Just remove the connector and remove the one screw holding the flasher to the bracket. Be sure the replacement is identical to the old one and compare them before installing the new one.

You may want to also check the turn signal bulbs also. Other causes would be bad signal and flasher switches, bad bulb connectors, and opens or shorts in the wiring.

SOURCE: Windshield wiper arm on passenger side won't move.

It will not be the motor, it will be the linkage or the wiper is slipping on the shaft, the lingkage is accsessible under the cowl, Hope this solves your problem and Merry Christmas

SOURCE: 2000 Explorer rear wiper motor does not work

check and see if the rear hatch is closed tight. I have had the same problem and solved it by always making sure the hatch is closed by giving it a nudge. Also there is a great web site for us explorer owners called explorer forum.com check it out.

SOURCE: Rear wiper Ford Explorer 1998 won't work.

Look for the fuse for the rear wiper motor is a 15 amp mini-fuse , in location # 8 of your POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX in the engine compartment. Check in the PD BOX for; - relay # 8 is the rear wiper down relay , and - relay # 10 is the rear wiper up relay .

The wipers will not work in the daylight....when he starts the truck in the daylight the wipers will not come on.....at night when he is leaving work the wipers will work.....checked the fuses and replaced...

So what youre saying is the wipers work when the headlights are on
but the wipers dont work when the headlights are off?

I would suspect the turn signal switch is bad. I believe the switch on your S-10 controls
the wipers as well as switching from high beams to low beams. Since that switch is related
to the control of both headlights and wipers.

Could also be the headlight switch. The wiring harness from the turn signal switch plugs
into the headlights switch. I would replace the headlight switch first since you can get one
for around $25. Turn signal switch costs $150-$200. Maybe a little more or less for your vehicle.

My 2003 malibu-the windshield wipers work but I,m not getting any washer fluid-usually you can hear the motor when you push the button to get washer fluid-I,m not hearing anything. Also where is the washer...

I had this problem last month. I was pushing the fluid button and was not hearing the motor. There could be two problems in this case. Either the unit in the steering wheel is malfunctioning, or there may have been non winter washer fluid in the pump and it froze and broke. In my case it was both, the button had to be jammed in to work, so the whole unit was replaced(turn signal and wiper control are together). The second problem was the the washer motor and is located on the drivers side, right under the washer fluid container. If you have parts laying around they are both very easy to fix.

My windsheild washer fluid dont work. how do i fix it

remove the small plastic hose for the washers and press the switch to turn them on, if there is water coming through the hose your spray holes are blocked on the wiper arms or the bonnet, wherever they are situated
If there is no water coming through, check for power at the connection for the washer pump, you will have to get someone to press the button or switch and hold it while you test for any power to the pump motor
If there is power there then the pump is faulty, replace the pump and test
the pump is located on the bottom of the washer fluid resevoir, some just push into a rubber seal, if that is the case just pull it out and replace it with the new pump

LEFT TRAILER TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK

I'd get a 12vdc test light if you don't have one already & start from plug, and keep probing back from there. It may be as simple as a bad connection under truck where joined into harness.

Wipers

You have two problems. The first is the wipers turn off and stay in the upright position and do not close. The motor is fine. There is a steal 'close' tab that has been bent out of position. You just need to push the steal tab back into position. You can use a chisel or screwdriver to pound it back into the 90 degree position.

The windsheild washer motor probably needs to be replaced
