Temp gauge not registering and cooling fan's run continuously

Temp gauge move's when car is started but as the car heat's to normal temp it stays buried at the bottom and cooling fan's run continuously. If i drive the car for say 10 km or so when i come to a stop and turn the car off and try to start it up again it won't start up, end up letting it sit for 20 mins or so. Changed the Coolant temp sensor and reset the computer but came back only a few day's later ????

The temp gauge works of a different sender to the coolant sensor. IT has 1 wire only and changes resistance as the water heats up there by moving the needle on the gauge up the scale Check that the wire is tight on the sender unit and if so then replace the sender unit.. The difficulty in re starting the motor may be because it is over heating but you would not know this because of the faulty sender unit.

SOURCE: car overheating

You need to check the water pump and coolant level. If coolant level is low you might have the air pocket in system. Overheating of the car can cause the damadge of head gaskette and engine block itself.
Good Luck

SOURCE: Temperature sensor problem?

There are 2 different circuit that control the cooling fans.
The engine controller turns the low speed fan circuit on to control temperature and turns on the high speed fan circuit if the engine and A/C is running.
It sounds like your low speed fan function is not working.
Find your fan 1 fuse located in the under hood fuse panel and make sure it is not blown. If OK go to next step.
Find your fan 1 relay located in the under hood fuse panel. Find another relay in the fuse panel that matches and swap the two. If the fan then works you know you have a bad relay.
If both are check good, let me know and we will go from there.
Below, I have attached the wiring diagram for your cooling system, hope it helps.

SOURCE: cooling fan doesnt come on in my 95 pontiac grand am 3.1L se

Change the thermostat, and bleed the cooling system or air.It does not need to be hot,and there are little bleeders on the engine, one is near the water outlet,it has a nut and a screw in the middle of it open it up,and pour coolant in the radiator, and watch for air and coolant to come out of the bleeder, and when all the air seems to be gone ,close the screw.Need to hold the nut while loosening the screw, and when you tighten the screw back down.Fill the radiator, and the reservoir full. The reservoir will have a full line on it,fill it up past the mark, about a quarter of the way more. Then start the engine set the heat to floor and turn it on low fan.Let it run,to see if the fans will come on,and they need to go off to let you know the engine is cooling back down.If they do not come on,right before the engine gets to hot, before the engine starts bubbling the reservoir tank, cut the engine off,and leave it for about 25 minutes. Then look at the reservoir to see if the coolant level has gone down,if so,add more coolant to the reservoir and start the engine up again, same procedure,it should start cooling then.

SOURCE: 06 grand prix --my temp gauge is not working, the

Coolant Temperature Sensor I would take the vehicle back to where it was serviced and try to ask them about what may have gone wrong to cause this problem.
The Intake Air Temperature sensor should also be checked.

The following is the procedure for servicing the coolant temperature sensor: Removal & Installation 3.8L Engine To Remove:

  1. Drain the coolant.
  2. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector. ECT sensor 3.8L gm-04-38-4321.gif

  3. Remove the ECT sensor.
To Install:
  1. Apply thread sealer P/N 12346004 or equivalent to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor threads.
  2. Install the ECT sensor. Tighten 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  3. Connect the ECT sensor harness connector.
  4. Fill the cooling system.
5.3L Engine To Remove:
  1. Drain the coolant below the level of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
  2. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector. ECT sensor 5.3L gm-04-53-4322.gif

  3. Remove the ECT sensor from the cylinder head.
To Install:
  1. Clean the threads in the sensor mounting hole.
  2. Apply sealer P/N 13246004 or equivalent to the threads of the sensor.
  3. Install the sensor and tighten 15 ft-lb (20 Nm).
  4. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  5. Fill the cooling system and check for leaks.

Why won't Rad fan run if fan motor, fan relay, temp sender all okay?

check terminals on the ECM
the circuit is when the coolant temp sensor ( not the gauge sender) reaches a predetermined setting , power is supplied to the ECM which in turn activates the fan relay and switches on the fan
there are normally 2 fuses in the circuit
the gauge sender is normally a single wire unit and the sensor unit has 4 wires to it

My 2006 ford f250 6.0 litre powerstroke has been showing that it is over heating and now it takes forever to show when the engine is at normal operating range or even warm at all but once it does the guage...

I think first of all you need to verify that it is really overheating and isn't a sensor that has become faulty and is sending false information to the management computer that these days will drive the cooling fan, the temp gauge and any alarms.
An obd scanner should show a similar coolant temp and air temp when the engine is cold and then register a fairly smooth increase after starting until it drops when the thermostat opens and begins to climb again until working temperature is reached and the cooling fan begins to cycle (if electric).

A failure to register and then suddenly jump could be a faulty sensor but could also be indicative of a blocked degassing system or an excessive amount of gas in the cooling system.

It is important to observe the engine during warmup and keep monitoring the heat of various hoses, the thermostat operation and so forth.

Heater blowing good heat temp gauge not moving and cooling fans not coming on. Unplug engine temp sensor and fans start put plug back on fans stop. gauge never moves

bad gauge or bad thermostat.

Fans come on because when you disconnect, it goes to default mode of fans on high speed.

I have 2003 grand cherokee with 140000 miles that overheats at idle. as soon as i start moving again, the temp goes back to normal.

You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful

Car over heating when stopped in traffic but not when movin

Hi. the first test will be to open the hood and inspect the cooling fans. check to see if the fans are activating in intervals during the running cycle. if you don't see any fan rotation at all, this will confirm cooling fan failure and you will need to replace the fans or fan relay. Now, if the fans are running and the car is continuing to run hot when stopped, i would move to the next inspection point. the next problem spot will be a faulty water pump or faulty thermostat

If these two devices are malfunction in any way, it will cause the symptoms you are experiencing. at this point. the first thing is to make sure those fans are actually working.

Please rate and have a great day:)

2000 Elantra Overheating

First when vehicle is cold like in the morning check and make sure that the vehicle has enough coolant/ antifreeze in radiator and reservoir. If coolant is need use a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. You will need some time to do this let car run at idle until the temp guage is in the middle NOT+ normal operating temperature. At this point if the thermostat should be in the open position. Let vehicle run and check to make sure that radiator fan comes on. This should come on when guage is about midway/half way. If temperature rises above half going to h/hot and fan doesn't come on, you either have a BAD FAN BAD FAN SWITCH BAD FAN RELAY OR BLOWN FAN SWITCH FUSE. You will need to check all of the following I will help if its needed. If fan comes on and doesn't go off and vehicle continues to get hot even with fan running. Feel radiator hoses and see if the lower radiator hose is cool/cold. If it is you have thermostat that stuck closed. Replace thermostat and fix problem. If all the above is good and vehicle continues to over heat. THE BAD NEW IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET /CRACKED HEAD /BROKEN WATER JACKET. Basically you will need a HEAD JOB at least a head gasket. ONe tell tail sign of this is oil looking like milkshake/chocolate milk-a creamish while residue in oil or antifreeze. Contact if you need hel0p. Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA
