Idle speed adjustment

Hi I am trying to find out how to adjust the idle speed on a tr magna 2.6. Is it all set by the cpu and needs to be looked at by a dealer or is there a screw to adjust it

The ecu drives a unit called an idle airspeed controller.if there is a vacuum leak, the computer will have the idle speed too high.
the IAC is a motor driven valve that controls airflow into the throttle body.it is common for idle speeds in the range of 1400rpm instead of 800 in this situation.
check the air filter, the throttle body cleaned, and the IAC has to be free moving.
also make sure that your coolant temperature sensor is accurate or the computer will think the engine is cold and keep the idle really high.

the iac is also known for a too low idle speed.

the iac is on the side of the throttle body.

How do you adjust idle speed 1991 johnson 100 hp

not important, what's important is that they are absolutely clean, including the four brass high speed jets located in the bottom center portion of the carburetor.

That model engine's carburetors has fixed jets, BUT if the slow speed jets are adjustable, earlier model carburetors have been installed. If so...................

The four adjustable needle valves control the flow of fuel in relation to the set air flow, adjusted as follows (if needed).

(Dual Carb V/4 With 4 (2 each carb) Slow Speed Adjustable N/Valves)
(J. Reeves)

The adjustment procedure of the carburetor slow speed needle valves follows. NOTE... if the needle valves turn too freely, replace the nylon bearing retainer (the nylon item at the front of the carb that the needle valve goes through first) with the newer type RED retainer #315232. If your engine has that weird linkage that connects all four of those needle valves, the newer RED retainers will enable you to discard that linkage. The RED retainers make it impossible for the needle valves to vibrate out of adjustment.

(Carburetor Adjustment - 2 Slow Speed Adjustable Needle Valves, each carburetor)

Initial setting is: All (4) Slow speed valves = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Facing the carburetors, start with the top left needle valve, then the top right valve, then the bottom let valve, then the bottom right valve. It may be necessary to redo these steps to get the adjustments ideally set

Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running.

Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

Do not attempt to gradually adjust all four of the valves at the same time. Do one at a time until you hit the above response (die out or spit back), then go on to the next valve.

When you have finished the above adjustment, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

Idle adjustment at carburator end

most older cars had 2 adjustments , a air screw for enrichment and throttle screw for engine idle speed, later models did away with the enrichment screw, to adjust set idle screw to 600 rpm, adjust air mixture screw to fastest rpm , reset idle screw to preferred idle speed.

I have a 2005 gmc Yukon how do you adjust the idle

idle is not adjustable Idle is control by IAC valve
if idle is high with a scanner look to data if trottle angle is at 0%
if it is at 1 or 2% this why rpm is high means for pcm trottle plate is open too much. adjust with scanner relearn.
hope it helps

How to adjust base idle speed 0n 1998 toyota camry 5s Fe

This should be set by the idle speed sensor but on some units there is an adjustment on the throttle cable stop. Have a mechanic do the job as if you upset the sensor settings too far the cpu will give you grief.. Normal idle will be about 900-1000rpm hot or about 1200 cold for a few minutes,

Check engine light is on. Is it the PO705 vehicle speed sensor A maken it do that?

Yup, if you scanned your engine computer and you got a code P0705, you can bet that's why your Check Engine light is on.

P0705, however, is NOT a Vehicle Speed Sensor code on this vehicle. It is a Digital Transmission Range Sensor code. It is caused by an open or shorted circuit in the TR-1, TR-2, TR-3a or TR-4 circuits. This code CANNOT be set by an incorrectly adjusted TR Sensor.

1995 pontiac firebird formula v8 idle

The idle speed is not adjustable, it is computer (PCM) controlled, you can turn the screw for the hard stop, but the computer will just over ride that adjustment for the most part, what I think you may need to do is clean the throttle valve and the idle speed control air bypass valve, use carb spray, spray it in the intake with the engine running use the at least 1/2 the can, the engine will try to stall, keep it running, after you are done disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, reconnect and drive a few days so the computer (PCM) can relearn your driving habits and set the idle correctly based on your driving.
