AC not blowing cold air at times

The air conditioner in my 2003 Ford ZX2 will not blow cold air at times. It will work sometimes, usually at night. It will work once a car is started after sitting all night, then stop blowing cold air; and sometimes it will not blow cold air at all.

2003 ford zx2 air conditioning not blowing cold air

Check and see if there is any Ice on the copper line that runs from condenser (outside unit) to air handler (inside) if so you need a charge. You can also make sure the fan is working on the condenser unit outside it should spin when you have the air on. If it is not you have a bad fan motor. there are other things it could be but these you can see.

How do I check the Air Conditioner spark plugs in my 2002 Malibu?

Sounds like it is low on the coolant which causes it to only work part of the time. You could probably take the car to a auto parts store and at least here in the midwest, they can help recharge your freon/R22 so you have a good working air conditioner. If that is properly charged and leak free, then your air conditioner compressor might be going bad, but then you would hear a lot of belt squealing when it wasn't working. Most likely though it is just low on the freon/R22.

By the way, air conditioners don't have spark plugs......LOL

The air conditioner starts blowing hot air on the driver side while the passenger side blows cold air.

2004 Suburban air conditioner blows hot air to the dirver side but cold air to the passenger. This does not happen all the time but has occurred several times this last summer.

My 2002 Expedition air conditioner will sometimes blow hot air and others cold air

I would check the following possibilities:
1. Is compressor clutch working? - You need to do this when the ac is blowing hot air only - locate compressor drive pulley on engine - rubber belt wraps around it. Start engine and set to max ac. When the ac is blowing hot air, look at the center of the compressor drive pulley using a good flash light - watch it for a while, it should be spinning with the pulley - this means the compressor is engaged. If not, the compressor is not engaged. If your ac is blowing hot air, then the compressor should be engaged and running (trying to cool). If it is not engaged, then your compressor clutch is probably going out. Could be low voltage to clutch, but more likely the clutch is worn out and only working some of the time. Note: if working normally, the compressor clutch will engage and disengage in cycles- but the air should always be cold. If clutch is bad, compressor would need to be replaced (sold as one unit). This is tricky to diagnose and could take some time - you need to do it when ac is blowing hot air but set to max cooling.

2. Low on refrigerant or refrigerant has moisture in it? If your ac blows cold initially after being off for a while, then heats up, and continues to regularly cycle back and forth between hot and cool air, then the system may be low on refrigerant or the refrigerant may have moisture in it that is freezing and restricting refrigerant flow. An a/c shop can check refrigerant level and even replace refrigerant if moisture is suspected.

Could be other issues, but I would start with these.

Good luck

A/C blowing hot air on 2002 Ford ZX2

first id check see if hoses where it connects have oily residue on them , if yes then o-rings/hoses are leaking and need replaced, usually compressor wont kick on if low refrigerant.
also check fuse box, sometimes a fuse will blow, need replaced , kind of rare but happens. might also look aaat where there are high/low pressure sensors screwed into condensor by firewall , passenger side usually. use a small wrench and tap very lightly and them sometimes very rarely they stick. if so id replace.

Air Conditioner

relays for air conditioners are normally close to the thermostat and tx valves
the problem amy not be with the fan but with the ac compressor not turning on from lack of gas
tell him to check for leaks or take it to an accredited ac shop and have the job done properly
