The best thing to do is check the transmission fluid, vehicle in park engine warm and at operating temperature,check the transmission fluid, at the transmission dipstick,if you are in the marked range the fluid is not the problem if the fluid is dark almost black(which should be very red) then the transmission is burnt,which a replaced transmission is the solution,

the shifter linkage has become loose or shifted and not aligning properly, truck will only start in park or neutral. the linkage needs to be realigned and repaired. this should be done at a professional level. the alignment is critical, if it is near shift point it can pop from park to reverse, or change gear suddenly causing an accident or transmission damage.
Sounds to me like you are having a transmission problem. Basically your transmission has gone into "limp" mode which is why you can drive your car up to 25mph but no further. Basically your transmission has limited it self to reverse, neutral, and 1st gear. Take your car to a transmission shop and have it diagnosed. Often a simple flush and fill will fix the problem, but you might need a new transmission.
