2001 mitsubishi galant was driving in cruise on the interstate at 75mph and all the sudden the rpm revved all the way up then dropped to zero.. I pulled over turned of car restarted it and the car would rev but not move in any gear.. Acts like its in neutral.. Tranny shop said the pump is bad and needs to b rebuilt. Anyone had tho done? An did the same problems reoccur after having it done?

Sounds like a vacuum leek

Take out the ECU and remove the metal case. Look for leaking electrolytic caps and/or a fishy smell. If you see any burned areas, the ECU is dead.

If you tinkered under the hood you may have un-plugged a vacuum hose that makes the cruse control work ,look under the hood for un-plugged tiny vacuum hoses,I have had this happen to me

Have you run an error check on vehicle. You can have this done for free at most auto parts stores. Almost sounds like the idle sensor is having issues, but can not be sure at this point. Make sure the choke isn't sticking or hanging up if carbureted.

does cruise light come on when you start the car, during the lamp check stage (during first seconds of starting) If it doesn't then the indicator lamp is probably out.

This may been an ignition module or a MAF sensor, this car may need to be diagnosed using a OBD I computer code reader to accurately diagnose the problem.

yes the transmission speed sensor has most likely failed, to confirm this have a trouble code test run
