sounds like an electrical problem check all fuses and ac clutch relay

it is the barrel at the rear of the ignition switch, you do not need to replace the whole of the ignition switch just the part on the back if you remove the stearing cowling and look behind the ignition barrel you will see either a white or black ( might be any colour though) item with wires going into it, all that is needed is that part to be replace, just unplug the wireing part and remove the ignition box from the back of the barrel and replace, hope i explained that correctly for you

E class merc ing barrel wiring as some one changed it and the wires come out the plastic housing at rear 1994 car

it is better to buy a new ignition barrel.it takes a special socket to get the screws out, once the screws are out they do not need to be replaced.buy new barrel,disconnect negative battery cable,disconnect wires from barrel assembly, remove barrel from colum. first take vin# to dealership parts department to get correct barrel assembly, the keys with new assembly will fit doors and trunk

i have a 1991 300e and i havent had one problem withthe key not turning but one time and i got it to turn after playing with it this time i drove all week and came home parked it didnt drive it for a day got in it and now i cannot turn the key at all to start it. i dont know what to do, could the key be to worn out or is it the ignition its self? and how much would it cost to fix this problem
