How to program a 04 malibu new key

When the correct number of learned master keys are not available to perform adding keys procedure the 10 minute re-learn procedure or 30 minute re-learn procedure must be performed. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components .
30-Minute Relearn Procedure
Use this procedure after replacing any of the following components:
?€¢
The PASS-Key III plus keys

?€¢
The theft deterrent module (TDM)

?€¢
The powertrain control module (PCM)

Important:
?€¢
This procedure is not available on vehicles equipped with EXPORT configured TDMs.

?€¢
When performing the 30-minute relearn procedure, all previously learned keys will be erased from the TDM memory. Additional keys may be learned after performing the relearn procedure.

?€¢
When replacing a TDM with a GM SPO Replacement Part, ensure the procedure to setup a new TDM is performed prior to the 30-Minute Relearn Procedure.

  1. With a master vehicle key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the security indicator. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
  5. Important: The vehicle learns the key transponder information and/or passwords on the ignition switch transition from OFF to RUN. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
  6. With a master vehicle key, start the vehicle. The vehicle has now learned the key transponder information and/or the ECM has now learned the fuel continue password.
  7. If additional keys are required to be learned, refer to Adding Keys .
  8. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs.
Adding Keys
Important:
?€¢
To initiate, this procedure requires that a learned master key be available.

?€¢
A total of 10 master keys or valet keys may be programmed to a single vehicle.

?€¢
This procedure adds keys only. The procedure does not erase previously learned keys.

?€¢
The keys to be learned must duplicate the mechanical cut of the current key.

?€¢
If more than one valet key is to be learned, immediately precede each valet key with a learned master key.

  1. With a previously learned master key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.
  3. Within 10 seconds insert the key to be learned. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF. The vehicle has now learned the new key.

Changed battery and replaced lost key. Now it won't start

nitabelle57, It sounds like your security system will not recognize the new key you purchased. Keys have a chip in them which has to be recognized by the security system in order to work. The new key has to be programmed by your security system before it will start your vehicle. You will need a battery charger to program the key as this procedure takes thirty minutes to do. Put the charger on the battery. Be sure everything else is turned off. Place the new key in the ignition and turn it to the run position. The security light should come on. After ten minutes the security light should be out, if not proceed anyway. Turn the key to the off position but do not remove it. Wait five seconds and turn it to the run position once again. Wait another ten minutes and turn it off again. Wait five seconds and turn it to the run position once again. After the final ten minutes turn the key off (do not remove it) Wait thirty seconds and then the key should be programmed. If you have any other keys they will not work now as the security system is now programmed for the one key. If you have another key and need it for another driver then start the vehicle with the newly programmed key and let it run for about a minute. Place the extra key in the ignition and turn it to the run position and wait sixty seconds. This should solve that problem. Good luck with this.

Security light blinks when key is turned to on and will not start, also is the key supposed to be coded? 2003 saturn vue 2.2

Ok to learn the key you have to do what is call 10 minute learn , turn the key to start in attempt to start the car without turning the key off after you do this leave the key on for 10 minute until light goes out, After the security light goes out turn key off for a second or two and then try to start. If you have a new key you have to do a 30 minute learn you have to do the same thing as you did for the 10 minute learn but 3 time try and start without turning key off wait 10 minutes until security goes out then try and start again and leave key on, after you do this 3 time (30 minutes) the 3rd time is where you turn the key of for a second or two before starting.

Hello:Try this procedure: turn key on, turn to start, let key come back to on wait ten minutes, turn key off wait 10 seconds turn key back on wait 10 minutes. turn key off wait 10 seconds turn key back on wait 10 minutes turn key off wait 10 seconds NOW try and start. In addition you might try tapping on switch assembly while trying to start. There is not any way to disable passlock. You might try having the engine control system codes read

Key stuck in ignition

Be sure its all the way in park or try neutral. Its possible that security system does not recognize the key. Is security light flashing or on steady? Shut all doors and windows, trunk, hood, turn off all accessory's,roll down drivers window, turn key off and remove for at least 1 minute, insert key into ignition, try to start leaving key to run position for 20 minutes, turn key to off, wait 15 seconds, try to start again leaving key to run, wait 20 minutes, turn key off, wait 15 seconds, try to start, again leaving key to run, wait 20 minutes, turn key off, wait 15 seconds, try to start. This should relearn key code. It may relearn after 1 learn cycle and start if system is ok. Hope this helps and that the weather is dry and warm for this procedure! This is not always a fix, but works most of the time.
