Yes there is a bearing in the AC clutch assembly, and the bearing can be changed with out swapping out for a whole new AC compressor unit or even taking the unit out.
The other thing to you may want to check is the Serpentine belt tensioner. The tensioner then to break apart and or when the clutch activate put's more pressure on the system and the idler pully bearing could alsy be the problem.
Spray some water on the fan belt whale the engine is running and see if the noise goes away and comes back as the water dry's. If the noise goes away then it's just a worn belt and need to be changed or you may want to do the quick fix and buy Fan belt dressing.
Good luck and hope this helps

Try the idler pulleys-put a long screwdriver on the fixed part and the other end in your ear while running-it will transmit bearing noise

Screaming noise from ac no cold air

It sounds to me that your belt or tensioner is worn, if the noise goes away when the ac is off then it is just the belt slipping, it takes a lot of power to run the compressor and if the belt is worn it most likely slipping on the pully when you engage the clutch.

Whinning noise when engine is off

Whinning Causes
The whining noise you hear coming from the power steering pump is one of three things. The first is more of a loud "hush" than a whine; this is the sound of fluid rushing through the bypass valve when you turn the wheel all the way to one side or the other. Sometimes the bypass valve malfunctions or doesn't open all the way, causing pressure to back up in the pump and cause your engine rpm to drop. The second and third causes result from cavitation -- vacuum pockets created behind the rotor's vane blades as a result of extremely high pump action -- or air in the lines.

I have a 2000 Dodge Stratus and on the passenger side front under the hood I am hear a loud whining sound, some people is telling me it's the water pump but not leaking, started but it start fine,...

I believe the Dodge Stratus has a timing belt operated water pump so this is what you can do. Disconnect the main drive belt for the a/c compressor and the alternator and start the vehicle and if it still makes the whinning noise than it is most likely going to be the water pump, if it does no longer make that noise check the pulley's on the a/c compressor and the alternator to make sure that the bearings are okay.... mkkkayyy hope that helps, good day

I have a 2005 Mercury Sable. When the A/C is on and you're outside the car you can hear a rattling/grinding type sound under the hood. It's not loud and probably wouldn't be that noticable to...

In most cases the noise is the bearing for the ac compressor clutch. Once the clutch bearing fails, the serpentine belt will be lost.

Hello! I have an 06 Trailblazer and its making a loud whinning noise. It gets louder when i press the gas pedal. We have replaced the idler pulley along with the belts. We have also taken the alternator...

Have you tried running the engine for a minute with the belt removed? If the noise is still present when you do this, then it is not related to the belt or any of the pullies. I have seen "whining" noises coming from the air induction system - namely, vibrations set up by the idle air control and reverberating in the intake. This will not go away with the belt removed.

If the noise does go away with the belt removed, then the problem HAS to be one of the pullies or components that are driven by the belt. Power steering pump a little low on fluid maybe? Or possibly a rough bearing in an idler pulley? Spin each pulley by hand and see if it makes any noise. You should not be able to "hear" them spin. If you get any kind of rattle or roughness when spinning the pulley by hand, then this is most likely your problem-child.

I took my 2005 Chev. Malibu in for an oil change and now it is making a loud noise from the engine. they say its the water pump? is that possible?

  • Hi, I can help.
  • When your water pump goes bad it will begin to grind. I had one I let got far to long and it sounded deafening when I opened the hood. You can open your hood and listen and see for yourself. The water pump is on the belt line, left side under the hood, last pulley toward the rear.
  • Now if your asking can an oil change effect the water pump? No, not at all. Water pumps go sporadically.
  • It would be odd that you heard no noises before the oil change and now the water pump is loud enough to take notice after the oil change. The bearings usually go a little slower than that.

  • I would be interested in some more of the details to this. And what your overall concerns are. I'd be happy to further. help. Otherwise get a second opinion on your cars condition.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Very loud clanging noises started while driving

Try to remove the belt for the ac and see if you still hear the noise, as it sounds like you may have blown the seal or bearing out of the ac compressor , not sure just a guess.

Loud noise!

May be a bad bearing on belt tensioner or idler pully

Loud & piercing whinning engine noise

Your right on. Its most likely the altenator. Chances are the belt is sliping because the pully bearing is bad. Of course this all means that you are running off the battery and it is getting low. You will get stuck when you can least afford to. You must remove the altenator and replace. Oh one last thing it could very well be your water pump pully bearing. So remove fan belt and spin with your hand, if you feel resistance thats it, so remove fan belt and check before you start replacing components. Good luck
