I was told this truck was a LBZ. I am not getting the miles per gallon I was promised, how can I improve mileage and how can I be sure I have an LBZ?
Hi: the 06 Duramax came with a LBZ, 18 mpg is normal, to improve it ... "chip" it, put in an "AirRaid air filter and a 5 inch exhaust. (cost about $1,000.00) Fuel mileage improved by over 30%.
I have 01 duramax with hypertech progammed at level 3 works good and have got as much as 24 mpg it seems the harder i run it the better it does
Hello
The engine
and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train
are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and
TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a
problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the
computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some
exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature
sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in
its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems
memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read
you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and
resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL
A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR
HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

2006 GMC Sierra 6.6 Duramax with allison 6 speed tranny. I drove 1050 miles on the freeway last weekend from Houston Texas to Minneapolis Minnesota. My best mileage was 14.5 MPG. I set cruise control at 70 miles per hour and was running about 1800 rpm. Very few stops just 12 hours of continuous freeway cruising. I was told I'd get 20 mpg, 14.5 is a long way from 20.
A lot of people are under the impression that a diesel engine is going to turn their 6000 lb 1 ton truck into a Honda civic...It aint!
You are pushing a 6000 pound barn door down the highway at 70 mph! I'm seriously surprised that you did as well as 14.5 mpg. I would bet, if you dropped your speed to 60 mph, you would start to get close to that 20 mpg figure, but don't hold your breath.
The amount of power (fuel) required to move the vehicle, squares as you double speed. In other words, if it takes 15 hp to push your truck @ 35 mph, it will take 225 hp to maintain 70 mph.
No can make a promise on MPG, only general information, read the advisory sticker the Feds put on the windows, to many variables involved, u don't supply any info about the truck, or it's engine size or the type of driving and many other factors, the rule is if the check engine light is not on the engine is burning the gas as efficiently as it can.
