Need to put now belts on

You did not say what vehicle you have. My first thought is did you route your belt correctly. When I have change belts before I would have to pull back the tensioner pulley to remove and install the belt. In this video you can see he has to move the tensioner to remove the belt and to install the belt. If your belt broke you need to move the tensioner back against the spring, install the belt and the spring will put tension on the belt.

You put a 3/8" ratchet in the tensioner arm. Looking at the side of the engine to the passenger side of the van, the tensioner is at the top of the engine towards the back. Twist the tensioner to allow the old belt to be removed, Install the new belt following the same path. There should be a sticker on the belt guard by the power steering pump. The belt will fit smoothly on all the pulleys. Pay attentions as some pulleys have the belt groves facing in, some have the belt groves facing out.

IMPORTANT - When you do this, put all the keys for the car in your pocket so no one can try to start it.

there is a little stick man illustration sticker under the hood showing how to release belt tension by moving the tensioner arm. if the serpentine belt is still on the lower pulley then put the belt on everything except the tensioner, then move the tensioner arm as needed, put the belt in there and release the tensioner arm. most likely going to need two people to do this.

if the belt has come off the lower pulley then you are going to have to remove the service panel behind the right front wheel and put the belt back on lower pulley, then do as above described. this would be a great time to put a new tensioner, a new serpentine belt, and a new "dog bone" motor mount on as it will all be right there to work on with that service panel out.

need to know the engine size and you should have a diagram for the belt routing under the hood. if the belt tensioner is faulty or one of the pulleys have seized .have those repaired first instead of putting on the belt again.9 out 10 it is a faulty part that is why you may have lost the belt.

You need a 15mm socket and breaker bar to put the socket on in order to change the belt. put the socket on the bolt in the center of the belt tensioner and pull towards the front of the car. This takes tension off of the belt and allow it to be taken off. when you put the new belt on just ease the breaker bar back toward the rear of the car until it touches the belt and remove the socket. the tensioner will automaticly adjust its self.
