Break your problem down manually... does the engine turn over? if so, half your ignition system is working...
(A) Does it get fuel, add a small amount of fuel directly into the carb \ throttle body. did it kick off or back fire? if so, use a squirt bottle and on spray setting, shoot a bit in while someone cranks on it... does it start and run? if so your problem is that it is not getting fuel
(B) If on both attemts you get no results, again you need an assistant. check your spark plug(s) for fire. First, you might check the wire, you can remove the end from a plug and stick a screw driver into it, allow it to rest only about 1/8th inch from some metal and have someone crank while you watch. did you see a nice spark? if no, you have no ignition power. Now is the real work...
(note, chevy plug wires are notorious for breaking if you arent very careful removing them. they stick very tightly to the plug so use smooth pliers and gently twist or get plug wire pliers)
for your fuel system and ignition, both will pass through your computer, so a failure there can cause a loss to either or both. aside from that,
(A) FUEL... from the tank to the carb, make sure there are no blockages.. such as a bad filter. then check the fuel pump. usually removing the line at the throttlebody and turning on the key will show you if you are getting fuel to there. but be careful, it will pump out fast... turn it on only long enough to see the fuel come. then off again.
if you didnt see fuel, clear blockage, replace filters, replace in tank fuel pump.. which ever applies. retest (remember, the computer controls these as well. a bad chip or computer connnection may have you chasing your tail)
if you did see fuel, clogged injectors... removing them and cleaning can sometimes get you going. however, the most likely result will be a broken aluminum retainer and swollen seals that wont go back together. but worth an attempt, my luck has gone both ways. Replace throttle body , injectors and seals as apply.
(B) if its an ignition problem... the best suggestion really, check for bad connections on your ECM and CCM or whatever and however many you have (many chevy pickups have three) wiggle them in place, and attempt to start again. if not, you can end up replacing them all and get no where... it could be so many things and no telling where the problem is hiding. a bad connection anywhere in the harness in the ignition trail will keep it from running. so try the simple, and if you dont get lucky, pay the pro. A good shop might save you alot more head aches getting it on some diagnostic machines and locating future head aches coming you didnt even know about... O2 sensors, etc... might well be worth it.
