I believe the hood latch cable is disconnected and so I am unable to open the hood. I've tried using lubricant and pushing down/pulling up while someone pulls on the hood release inside the car. I can't seem to find a schematic or picture of an identical hood latch online so I'm at a loss on what to do next. Thanks in advance for any help!

This is a tricky one to explain. We will probably be talking alot. First question, did the cable break leaving a tail on the latch end of the cable. This will kind of have a little flag for you to look for. Think of it as a pull here tab. Getting to it will be difficult, so be patient. If you see the screws and bolts to squeeze an arm under the grill or between it and the radiator. If there is no tail of cable in there, you will have to feel around for a, how do I describe this, it's a piece of metal that is bent in a loop just big enough for the cable to fit through. Pull on that, pull in all directions possible before moving on to another piece. You'll find it, just be patient. This is a difficult task, so don't get frustrated or you will just hurt yourself.

Grab the cable stub with a pair of vise grips, have someone bounce the front of the hood while pulling...most times that will free a balky latch. Then you can change the cable.
SOURCE: hood latch cable broke how do I open hood?
You'll have to remove part of the grill and try to access the latch from inside. Yoy may have to unbolt the entire thing, but make sure you mark it 1st so that you know how to put it back in the EXACT spot it came from. Then once out, you can extracate it from the latch pin on the hood, replace your cable and start fresh. Good luck, this is one of those things that no matter how long you've been working on cars, its always hard to do!

SOURCE: hood latch cable fails to release hood when
I would try pushing down and pulling up on the hood while someone operates the hood latch. I'd try to spray some WD-40 between the hood and grill area. From underneath, you may be able to use a long screw driver to try to move the release lever over to release the hood.

Try having someone push down on the hood a few times when you are pulling the release, if that opens it, then the latch needs to be lubricated. if it dosen't open the cable may be broken.
