Hood Latch Cable Broke

I believe the hood latch cable is disconnected and so I am unable to open the hood. I've tried using lubricant and pushing down/pulling up while someone pulls on the hood release inside the car. I can't seem to find a schematic or picture of an identical hood latch online so I'm at a loss on what to do next. Thanks in advance for any help!

SOURCE: hood latch cable pulled out

This is a tricky one to explain. We will probably be talking alot. First question, did the cable break leaving a tail on the latch end of the cable. This will kind of have a little flag for you to look for. Think of it as a pull here tab. Getting to it will be difficult, so be patient. If you see the screws and bolts to squeeze an arm under the grill or between it and the radiator. If there is no tail of cable in there, you will have to feel around for a, how do I describe this, it's a piece of metal that is bent in a loop just big enough for the cable to fit through. Pull on that, pull in all directions possible before moving on to another piece. You'll find it, just be patient. This is a difficult task, so don't get frustrated or you will just hurt yourself.

SOURCE: 2000 Chevrolet Blazer The hood release

Grab the cable stub with a pair of vise grips, have someone bounce the front of the hood while pulling...most times that will free a balky latch. Then you can change the cable.

SOURCE: hood latch cable broke how do I open hood?

You'll have to remove part of the grill and try to access the latch from inside. Yoy may have to unbolt the entire thing, but make sure you mark it 1st so that you know how to put it back in the EXACT spot it came from. Then once out, you can extracate it from the latch pin on the hood, replace your cable and start fresh. Good luck, this is one of those things that no matter how long you've been working on cars, its always hard to do!

SOURCE: hood latch cable fails to release hood when

I would try pushing down and pulling up on the hood while someone operates the hood latch. I'd try to spray some WD-40 between the hood and grill area. From underneath, you may be able to use a long screw driver to try to move the release lever over to release the hood.

SOURCE: the hood release latch will

Try having someone push down on the hood a few times when you are pulling the release, if that opens it, then the latch needs to be lubricated. if it dosen't open the cable may be broken.

Hood stuck will not lease from latch

If the hood of your vehicle is stuck and will not release from the latch, there could be several possible causes. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the latch: Make sure the latch is not damaged or stuck in the closed position. If the latch is damaged, you may need to replace it. If it is just stuck, try lubricating it with a penetrating oil or WD-40 to loosen it up.
  2. Check the hood release cable: The hood release cable may be damaged or disconnected. Check the cable to make sure it is not broken or frayed, and that it is properly connected at both ends.
  3. Check the hinges: The hinges that hold the hood in place may be damaged or corroded, causing the hood to stick. Inspect the hinges and lubricate them with a penetrating oil or WD-40 if they are sticking.
  4. Check the hood itself: The hood may be misaligned or bent, causing it to stick in the closed position. Inspect the hood and try gently adjusting it to see if that helps.
If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and are still unable to release the hood, it may be best to seek the help of a qualified mechanic who can diagnose and fix the problem.

How to open the hood on 05 mitsubishi lancer es after hood release cable broke on engine bay side.

Cut the outer hood release cable sheath (under the dash) back to expose the inner wire cable, then using a pair of locking pliers (Vise Grips) pull on the inner release cable while another person pushes down over the latch area of the hood to relieve pressure on the latch and make it easier to open, the hook is released lubricate the hood latch and hood latch striker with white Lithium Grease (AKA "Lubriplate")

Latch cable for hood broke at latch on 04 tribute how do i get the hood opened?

OK, if the cable is the part that broke AND it broke at the handle, then you can use a pliers or vise grip to grab the end and pull on it to pop the hood, if it broke somewhere inside the cable, then you will need some needle nosed pliers to reach under the hood and grab it there. if it broke off at the hood latch itself, then you will need to get/ make a hook or pushing rod to engage the mechanism directly to release the latch and then replace the cable

Hood cable broke or came loose on 1992 coupe deville cant get hood up

You'll have to try going thru the grille or from under the bumper to access the hood latch.
You might want to look at another GM product to gauge were the latch is in your car.
Sometimes you can use a coat hanger as a hook to pull the latch from outside the grille or between the grille and hood. Or use a long screwdriver from under the bumper.

The hood latch cable broke under the hood how can i open it

Saturn Vue hood release can be opened (if the cable is not broken) by disconnecting the cable from the back of the release lever, grabbing the ball on the end of the cable with some large pliers ("channel locks") and pulling hard. A metal "wire keeper" bracket clamped to the cable end under the hood to serve as a spacer and the release lever works.
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide a procedure for opening the hood on the Saturn VUE and ION vehicles should the hood latch release cable mechanism become inoperative.

VUE Hood Opening Procedure Modify the Saturn radio antenna by bending the antenna mast 1 in. (2.54 cm) above the antenna base to a 25 degree angle

Open hood of similar vehicle to locate hood latch release cable to hood latch attachment point.

Using modified antenna, note approximate location that antenna will have to enter in between fascia and hood to access the hood latch cable attachment point. This should be toward the left edge of the Saturn emblem. Also note position of the modified antenna base. It should be angled downward.

Note: Use protective tape on the hood and fascia where the antenna will be inserted to protect the surfaces from scratches
On vehicle with inoperative latch, insert antenna between hood and fascia and depress the hood latch cable until the hood is opened.

Good luck and thank you for using fixya

Pulling the hood latch handle does not release the hood on a 98 Volvo v70, it is not out of adjustment because the cable broke from the latch and pulling the cable itself with vice grips does nothing,...

The only suggestion that I can think of is to have someone push up and down on the hood while you pull the cable. This might lower the tension on whatever is binding. If there is a way to spray some lubricant with a plastic tube into the latch area, I would give it a try. Sorry this isn't more helpful. Just be glad it's not a Jag. Takes 5 hours of labor to open the hood on some models after the hood release handle breaks. Good luck!

Hood latch

There is no other way to release the hood other than either trying to reach the latch release from under the car or removing the grille.
