code p0301 and 302 refer to cylinder I and cylinder 2 misfire detected.--- causes--engine mechanical fault--wiring---ignition/ fuel system--injector--ECT/MAF sensor ---ECM I would have had a fuel pressure test done as miss fires from injectors not getting enough fuel would have been a better starting point Run the fault codes again to see what else has happened.
did you try a different spark plug wire on cylinder 8? if cylinder 8 has good compression i would guess either plug, wire, or injector. another possibility could be no injector pulse on the injector plug in.
Got a check engine light? Get the codes read to find out if the misfires are on all cylinders or just 1. Could be ign coil, bad crank or cam sensor, or a valve issue
A common problem on these engines are the ignition coil packs, there is one for each cylinder, do you have any diagnostic code information so I can help diagnose the problem? The cat converter overheated due to the misfire.
Did you check the ignition timing ? It should be for manual
transmission 20+/- 2 deg BTDC
automatic transmission 20+/- deg BTDC
FYI---One time i dropped a new plug before i put it in and did not
realize that the gap have closed up and started a bad miss..make sure
all plugs are gaped correctly....could be something else but you can
start here...Hope this helped ?
Check your plugs for the right gap. Ask an auto parts store for the gap size for the S-10. Check the wires too. A good way to check the wires is to turn on the truck at night and move the wires one at a time. Sparks will come on if the wire is bad. At night you can see them easily.
