With the van in park or neutral with e-brake on, and engine running, pull the transmission fluid dipstick, notice there's no fluid on the dipstick. Put a quart of transmission fluid in the dipstick tube, with e-brake still on, put the van in gear. R or D, and see does the van try to move against the brake. If it tries to move, engine speed drops, put it back in neutral or park and check the fluid level again. If it's still low, put in a little more till it's to the full mark.. Done. Check under the van and find the area where fluid is dripping out and fix it. If it's the pan gasket, replace it. Replace the filter while the pan is down.
Uuuh... No. There is an electrical link between the brake pedal and the transmission to prevent that from happening.
1. It keeps kids from pulling the lever out of park when they are too small to reach the pedals (first hand experience with that one back in the 60's!).
2. It keeps grownups from pulling it into gear with the engine revved up and crashing into things in parking lots and driveways.
3. Transmissions go from Park to Reverse, Neutral, then Drive. Without the brake on, there would be lots of excessive shocks to the transmission.
did you check the fluid in the transmissin it could be low or also it could need a new transmission filter i wouldnt try to drive it it anymore without checkin or changin it because it will burn it up
first off you need to disconect the battery and then jack up the van..remember to set the parking brake and if possible use jack stands..now when you go under the van the starter will be on the passenger side below the exhaust manifold.there is 2- 9 1/16 bolts securing it to the motor remove these and slowly let it down to better access the wires on the silinoid disconect the silonoid wires take the starter down and then reverse the prosses
You have to have the code pulled to see what it is. This MAY help but you should also have the fuel pressure checked to see if you have a blockage usually when a pump goes out the vehicle won't start or may just idle.GOOD LUCK
