I have a 1997 Mazda Capella 626 1.8, water is leaking from a pipe connected to the engine,im not sure if its the water pump because the leak is out of view when looking from the top in the bonnet, its actually leaking on to the exaust pipe underneath the motor somewhere ,so i then had it checked by a mechanic, he said its a rusted water pipe an that the part is gonna cost $400, excluding the labour.Do you no what part it is and were its located?

SOURCE: 1994 mazda capella has water pump leak ........

Hi

The general reasons for the failure of a water pump are as follows.....

1. General mechanical failure in the seal, or bearing of the water pump, due to general wear and tear, or engine having been overheated badly.

2. Over tensioning, of the drive belt, putting excess strain on the water pump bearing.

I hope this has been of help to you.

A FixYa rating would be Nice... Thank You ...John.

You may have to dig deeper for a vacuum leak. It's possibly the intake manifold gasket. Try spraying some starting fluid around the intake manifold. Also try disconnecting the brake booster and plugging that hose, the diaphram in the booster could be ruptured, causing a vacuum leak. Check the PCV valve and hose too.

SOURCE: overheating and leaking when i

There is a plastic bottle located beside the radiator with a hose that runs down beside the radiator, this is the reservoir for coolant and has this overflow feature. For car overheating it could be one of three things, thermostat stuck closed, hoses closing together (squeeze the hoses with your hand, if they are soft they need to be replaced) or your water pump is not working.

I have a leak and cannot find where it is coming from!? Could it be coming from the water pump?

Yes its likely most water pumps have a small hole on the under side of them called a weep hole. Its there to let you know that the seal is starting to leak and the pump needs to be replaced before it completely fails say on the highway and dose a lot of damage to the engine If its coming out the bottom center of the pump shaft and just driping a little then its time to replace the pump you should be able to feel the hole with your finger

My 94 mazda 626 lx dumped radiator fluid on the ground i believe that its the water pump but dont know where it is or how to change it

Broken water-pump don't dump water when they are bad. They leak bit-by-bit through their bleed holes. You may have a broken hose. You may test the leaking again with plain water, and while the engine is running open the hood and see where the leak is coming from.
If your water-pump is out, you will have to replace it togethet with the timing-belt. And it would be best to get the Haneys repair manual which is more detailed for this job. The water-pump is bolted to the engine side, protected by black plastic covers.
