As i said, sorry, you must take it to a specialist transmission shop. There is no quick fix.

    Hope this helps

I think that you may have burnt the gearbox clutch plates due to low oil , and now you have slippage. possibly one set of clutches are fried. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do except take it to a transmission specialist.

If the transmission fluid was VERY low, the damage may already be done. I know on alot of Rav-4's, there is a computer problem, that causes transmission problems. basically, it wants to shift into 2 gears at once, and will eventually make the transmission come apart. BUT, it has to be replaced WITH the ECU because it will just break the new transmission. I would take it to your local Toyota dealer and have them check the ECM and transmission.

Rav4 Automatic Transmission Jerks into Second

check the level of the transmission fluid while the engine is running.
also has the transmission been "flushed"? a lot of shops just use
dextron atf with the additives supplied by the supplier of the flushing machine.
this can cause problems in toyotas.
replacing the fluid with the correct (T IV) transmission fluid
may help.
but if you are having this much trouble it may be too late.

60 series toyota cruiser has trouble changing gears only 1st 2nd gear auto

You have a stuck solenoid in the auto, The only way to fix it is to remove the solenoids and manually free them up, This means removing the oil and oil pan and removing the solenoids.

What is the meaning of L, H, D on the automatic gearbox of Toyota Rav4 1994 - 2000

Hi:
Those designate the three different speeds on the auto transmission. If you select D, it automatically shifts thru all gears as conditions require. If you select L, it will stay in Low gear, or first, and if you select H, it will shift thru all gears except the overdrive gear.

Transmission slippage

The ECM (or, Electronic Control Module) is covered by the factory warranty for 96 months, or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first. Have your dealer refer to Toyota technical service bulletin "TC002-06" for info proving this. The fix is to replace the ECM. If you are below the above parameters, the repair should be free.

Also, if you have ever had your transmission fluids changed, it is CRITICAL that you use a specific auto transmission fluid, Toyota type "T-IV". Any other fluid will cause you problems. Please feel free to respond if you have any other questions; and Thnaks for choosing FixYa!

The car does not drive in its gears, engine light comes and goes

Go back to toyota. If you only have 40,000 miles on the car , to the best of my knowledge, the computer is covered and they should fix it.
