Sounds to me that a connecting rod stretched and ready to brake. When it is running does the noise get less when u bring the rpm up or louder if it gets less sounds like the rod if gets more could be what your mechanic said hard to say .....hopes this helps some
this can be a serious problem, sounds like one of your engine valves, has the car overheated recently? if your valves bent, you need to take the engine apart hope i helped
Here's what you don't want to hear...A loud knocking noise from inside your engine is generally caused by a crank or rod bearing...when caught very early, sometimes they can be replaced. however, once the noise is loud, the attending crankshaft journal gets "hammered" out of shape and the job becomes very expensive and in most cases more costly than engine replacement. There is one other item that can cause a loud knock...your flywheel. Bearing problems generally cause low oil pressure. If you have that, it's gone...if not, have the flywheel checked before sending the engine to the scrapyard.
hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456
