Car stalls 1992 Dodge Spirit the car stalls when shifting transmission to drive i have a 93 chevy lumina. the engine sounds fine, idle is good, but when i put it into drive and touch the gas pedal it dies...please help if anyone knows the problem.

could be linkage or throttle kick down is stuck

Sounds like a IAC motor issue (idle air control motor) it controls your idle when you stop or put the ac on it adjusts the idle so you wont stall. it could be dirty or maybe worn out due to age .Very common that they do wear out .

Read OBD for codes. Reset ECU and try again.

take it to a good transmission shop. these transmissions are weak and are known to fail at a low milage. good-luck !!

check to make sure the power brake booster is not leaking, do this by starting the van and just let it idle in park and push the brake pedal if the engine stalls or surges or you hear a sucking noise under the dash then replace the power brake booster if there is none of these systems then replace the idle control motor. GOOD LUCK

SOUND LIKE FAULTY TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID.WHAT HAPPENING WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP.WHEN YOUR FOOT PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CLUTCH SOLENOID SUPPOSE TO UNLOCK TORQUE CONVERTER TO KEEP FROM STALLING THE ENGINE IF NOT THATS WHAT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL OUT.SO HAVE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CHECK OUT AND HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SCANNED FOR A TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID FAULT.

"93 chevy lumina, starts good and will run for a little bit and then shuts off. or when i put it into gear it will shut off also. i have replaced the spark plugs,has new filters and used an injector cleaner. i hope you can help me figure out what is wrong with it. thanks

check fluid level, make sure proper fluid is in transmission otherwise take to trans shop to diagnse if level and type is correct(check at idle normal operating temp)

the transmission band need to be replace

The problem is the idle air control solenoid. If not that there is a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake. It's getting too much air in other words. Hope it helps.
