Battery drain from power door locks on 96 Grand Cherokee

We drive our 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo very little and the new battery keeps going dead. I found a constant drain of 180 milli amp drain dropped to about 8 milli amps if I pulled the circuit breaker to the power doors/windows. Hence, there is a malfunction in the power locks and/or power windows circuitry.

Someone said that there is a sealed module in the driver's side door that must be the problem.

Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. After putting in a new battery and try to start it it just makes a clicking sound.. WHY?

i have same problem... battery drains in one night because of this door/power windows module :(

COMMENT: Your friend's idea sounds reasonable. I dont have a diagram on that vehicle, but, if you pulled that breaker and the drain dropped, a module failure makes more sense than anything else.

The Module in the Drivers Door is notorius for this problem. I would start by changing that first. Good luck to you. Thanks for using fixya!

MY 96 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, RUNS FINE, BUT THE COURTESY LIGHTS EITHER CLICK OFF AND ON OR JUST STAY ON. ALSO , WHEN I DRIVE, THE LOCKS CLICK FROM LOCKED TO UNLOCKED ALMOST CONTINUOSLY.. MY ALARM

The problem is the remote. What I think is happening.... is that the battery in the remote controls all those same functions that you are now manually controlling with your key. The reason the alarm works without the remote is that it is powered by the actvation of the power locks. Go put battery in your remote and I would just about guarantee you that everything will work the way it is supposed to... I wish you good luck. and God Bless\

notice is did not say battery was bad only discharged.

if engine starts is charge.battery lamp glowing.
i engine is dead, can crank it.
get a jump, call AAATOW

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee alarm keeps randomly going off.

this happened to me recently with my 96 grand cherokee. the battery got drained by the alarm going off randomly at night. i pulled the fuse for the horn so at least my neighbors would only be bothered by flashing lights. then i couldn't jump the car because the alarm was still going off. i hooked my car to jump it to another car, and then i had to deactivate the alarm first by putting my key in the driver side door and unlocking the car. then i left it hooked to another car and still getting power but didn't jump it for at least 5 minutes in case the computer needed to reset. then it jumped fine. from what i've read online, this is a common problem that can be avoided if you stop using the power locks and always manually lock and unlock the doors with your key. its a little annoying, but apparently the power locks are connected to the alarm issue. hope the same works for you.

96 Jeep GC Draining battery

I couldn't get my inside lights to go out at all which drained the battery. I ended up taking out the fuse. It works but I have no inside lights (dome, etc) now.
