Only use Power Steering Fluid! Transmission Fluid was OK back in the Day But, The 80's and up Cars have softer Seals in the System that will fail with Tranny Fluid.

Put 1 quart of dextron III/mercon in a transmission that calls for mercon v what should i do.its a 1997 mercury grand marquis

1 quart probably won`t have much of a affect on the transmission as there is about 10-12 quarts in the transmission to start with.the only way to fix it is to do a transmission service and change all the fluid and the fluid in the torque converter it has a drain plug that you will have to find so you can drain it.

In my Grand Marquis 1999 while i am driving suddenly o/d off light is flashing what is the problem, is that possible to be transmission oil ? thanks

Not the trans fluid

Oil only cools, lubes & applies pressure to
the clutch drums & bands

You change trans & power steering fluid
every 3 years or 30,000 miles on ALL Vehicles

Changing trans fluid DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING

You have to have the OD light issue diagnosed

I am changing the transmission fluid in my 2001 Grand Marquis. when the filter cam off there was what appeared to be a check valve laying on ground. It has a stem about 1 inc longa and the head is about...

Throw it away

That was used on the assy line, to fill
the hole in the trans case before the fill tube went in

You should be changing your trans and power steering fluid
every 3 years or not more than 30,000 miles ,on all vehicles.

Use the correct fluid and add a bottle of Red Lubgard, made
by International Lubricants. Get at auto parts store

Also put Lubgard Power Steering Additive in P/S
Make sure you get the correct one,not the Honda Version

What type of powers steering fluid should i buy for a 1990 grand marquis?

Transmission Fluid---Dex/Merc

Do not use power steering fluids, found in the parts store, or any product, for any application with a sealer.

NO SEALERS

Use what your vehicle was designed for

You should flush your P/S Fluid every 3 years
That alone will not correct a problem

When I turn right or left, a moaning sound emanates from under the hood of my 1989 Mercury Marquis. Is my power steering pump failing? Where do I check the power steering fluid level?

The sound should indicate low fluid. Your power steering fluid should be red...may look black depending on how old. Your manual will tell you where to fill.
