Engine stalls when wheels turned - 1998 Chevrolet Venture Cargo

the power steering pump is loading the engine to do the job and the engine rpms at idle are not compensating for the load

the differential action means that the wheel with the least resistance will spin faster than the other. The other turn because of friction and fluid motion. Should you grab hold of the turning wheel then the other wheel will pick up speed and spin. The differential has nothing to do with stalling and engine performance problems
Run the fault codes and check for vacuum leaks especially in the vent controls under the dash and brake booster

Need a good look to be sure but on the power steering rack their is a switch which increases the idle on turning the wheel when the engine is idleing

First sign of ignition switch failing

Do the following service it should help the stall out.

Engine stalling and rough run issue at low speeds

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Q; Is your service engine lamp on? This vehical has a power steering pressure switch,witch helps your engine maintane idle at parking lot monuvers. its next to your power steering pump.you can check if it works by starting your engine and let it warm up. then without tuching your gas pedal turn your steering wheel slowly , the engine should maintane its idle. if this works and your service eng. soon is not on then try cleaning your throttle plate. A dirty throttle is alot of stalling causes with all vehicals.

if you are turning the wheel all the way until it stops then you are putting the steering pump in a bind cuasing the engine to slow down more causing the engine to stall ,,, recommend you turn the steering wheel all the way you are going until the wheel stops and then back the other way a little bit to stop this binding,, shoulsd stop your problem

this is caused by slow engine idle speed, do the procedure below.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

there is a switch on the power stearing that shuts off the a/c when you turn to hard it sounds like it is shorted out or going bad

the engine puts out 'X' horesepower....the combination of A/C on demands and turning the wheel..(putting major pressure on power steering system and its belt) ..kills the motor ..its normal..dont do those things at same time anymore
