Whether they become damaged in an accident or simply burn out over time, your Subaru Outback's headlights may eventually need to be replaced. Fortunately, once you've purchased the right replacement bulb for your model year, performing the repair yourself is relatively easy. These instructions only apply to Outback models made after 2000.

  1. Undo the clips on the air intake ducts using a screwdriver and remove the duct from the engine compartment (driver's side bulb removal only.)

  2. 2

Loosen the secured clip on the washer tank with a screwdriver and slide the tank horizontally to allow easier access to the headlight assembly (passenger's side bulb removal only.)

  3. 3

Turn the bulb cover counterclockwise and remove it from the assembly.

  4. 4

Disconnect the headlight electrical connector and undo the assembly retaining spring.

  5. 5

Pull the old bulb directly out of the socket and replace it with the new one. Press the retaining spring back into place and reattach the electrical connector.

  6. 6

Replace the bulb cover, and then turn on the engine. Test the new headlight to make sure it works before replacing the air intake duct or the washer tank and closing the hood.

SOURCE: 2001 Infiniti QX4 low beam bulb replacement instructions

Look directly behind the headlight box if there is a rubber sleave covering the plug take it off. Unplug the wires from the bulb, there may be a saftey clip you will have to pry up to get it off.after you get the plug off the bulb holder should twist counterclockwise then it will pull right off. When you change the bulb just remember to wipe your body oil off the bulb before attaching it back into the headlight box. Then plug it back in and your in business. The high beam has three wires and the low beam has two wires. The bulb will have to be the right one.

SOURCE: Low Beam Out on '05 Saab 9-3 (Driver Side)

Gar' - I've had the low beams on my wife's '05 9-3 go out a number of times (very frustrating), so have figure this one out. You'll need to remove the battery cover to be able to get access to the back to the HL assembly. Once you have that off, you'll see a rubber boot in line with the LB lens/reflector assy., BUT to get your hand in there, you'll need to remove the windshield washer fluid filler tube, just pull up on this, (comes out easily), set aside. NOW, you can get to the rubber boot - looks like a rubber jar lid. Pull this off, reach in and you'll feel the lamp retainer/clip thing. This will need to be twisted counter clockwise (anti-clockwise in the UK, I think ;) ) , twist, pull out, replace bulb, reverse process. WARNING - edges are sharp, space is tight, but gloves are impractical because you'll have to feel around for the bulb assy., so be careful, that said, I use surgical gloves to keep my hands clean and keep from touching the bulb. Standard warnings regarding the touching the lamps with your bare fingers (DON'T), use a cloth or surgical gloves. Hope that helps. I originally found this information on the web, so a search may get you a video or photos of the situation.

SOURCE: REPLACEMENT OF [LOW BEAM] HALOGEN BULB IN 2004 Buick LeSabre

I just Replaced a Low Beam Light bulb on a 2005 Buick La Sabre.

If You use a Metric socket and Remove the Two Silver bolts Attaching the headlight Assemble onto the metal surrounding the the lamp assembly it comes out to the front. This makes it much easier to access the bulb. Twist it counerclockwise & it comes out by pulling gently on the bulb. Then by realeasing a tab that is the socket holder bulb can be removed & replaced with a New #9006 low beam halogen light bulb. Wrap a Paper towel around the bulb & do NOT touch it with your bare hand as this wiil ruin a halogen bulb,

05 Jeep Wrangler High Beams Work, Low Beams dont

There are no relays for the headlights. Your problem could be from the headlight switch. You would have to check and see if you have power coming out of the switch on the low beam side. Check with a test light.
