1994 Jetta blinkers stop working when brake is applied
1994 Volkswagen Jetta. Blinkers work until press the brake pedal then they stop blinking. Once you release the brake pedal they then will resume blinking.
I have the same issue on a 1996 VW Jetta GL. I don't drive it, but I thought when the 4-way flashers are on - isn't the 4 amber lights supposed to flash and not the front 2 amber lights and the back 2 brake lights?

Sounds like a bad ground connection, probably in the back. You'll need to find the bad connection. Or if you can figure out which wire is the ground wire, connect it via a new ground wire to the body.
I am having a simliar problem! Mine is when I put the blinker on and apply the brake my blinkers don't work & then when I put my right blinker on my left and right one blink @ the same time!
The trailer harness that was installed probably has a short inside the box that distributes power to the trailer pig-tail. Remove the trailer harness. You problem will be cured.
Check to see if you have a burnt out light bulb, that usually causes your blinkers to stop working when you apply the brakes. and check your four way flasher fuse, it's part of your turn signals and brake lighting system.
Hi,
I think there may be a control unit for the fan near one of the front suspension mounts, but it may be a "stuck" relay in the main relay board. Unfortunately I don't know which one it is, but you could remove and replace them one by one until it stops!
If it is one of the removable relays you could try giving it a "reminder" by tapping it on a hard surface and hope that it frees itself.
Hope this helps you a bit. D.
