Yes it could cause that. the EGR is near the rear of the engine, if it is leaking it will sizzle water when you touch it with wet fingers.
Found that everything I addressed under my fault codes had nothing to do with the sputtering from my engine. Not a; tune up, egr valve, cam shaft position sensor, radiator cap, thermostat or throttle body. It was my valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals. I had oil on one plug, and that was causing the sputter. A fifteen dollar problem.....smh.

Either you have a vacuum leak or electrical issue.
First Inspect all vacuum lines.
Next test engine vacuum (17-21 hg's)
If all a-ok then its electrical and you got your work cut out for ya.Have to probe the circuit to see where its shorting and what its shorting to. I don't think it will be electrical simple because you would be blowing fuses if it was. Sounds more vacuum related..... and thats worse.

The throttle body needs to be cleaned, grime in this area prevents the throttle plate from closing completely and allowing air to enter, making the air/fuel mixture lean.

An EGR Valve is on the intake Manifold, and the egr will not be effected by the use of ac. The purpose of an EGR is exhaust gas re circulation, however if an egr valve does have an issues, in some cases it will effect your fuel mileage.as well as cause your check engine light to come on.
