2005 chevy silverado 1500 4x4 5.3L low oil pressure comes on and there's a ticking noise. I changed my oil, oil filter and added rislone to help change the oil. I replaced the oil sending unit and my truck still saying low oil pressure and the noise is getting louder. What should I do next. Change my oil pump??

By your description, yes your problem may be in the oil pump, pickup screen. and/or clogged oil channels going into your valve cover /upper valve chamber. The ticking you hear is on the valve lifters and/or rocker arm.

Remove a valve cover, start the engine and see if an ample flow of oil is reaching the valves. Turn off the engine and inspect the oil inlet and return channels for sludge build up.

Not knowing your specifics I don't know where the oil sensor is located but it is probably accurate. Chev uses a side mount and internal oil pump if I recall. Either way yo may have to drop the oil pan to inspect and clean the pickup screen.

If the issue is in the oil pump it could be a damaged cam lever or pump chamber is clogged with grease-like debris. An old shade tree mechanic solution( which I have used successfully several times) was to warm the engine, shut it off, drain and save the new oil then refill with a gallon of diesel or kerosene to dissolve clogged oil chambers/channels. Run in place for 5-10 minutes or until the tapping goes away. Drain the kerosene and check for metal slivers, globs of sludge etc. This is at your own risk because if you have worn bearings that are only being held in place by sludge it could throw one. I suspect excessive sludge. This is a possible solution and if not resolved promptly, your valve guides will wear quickly and you'll be looking at an engine tear down.

The next step would be to remove the oil pump and inspect for clogs or wear. Note there may be a port directly on the pump which can be used to attach a meter for oil pressure at the pump--check your shop manual for your model. As an alternative you can add a half gallon directly to the oil and drive for 15+ miles but you will have to drain that oil/kerosene mixture and dispose of it. Good Luck.

SOURCE: ticking noise and low oil pressure

DOES IT HAVE A LOT OF MILES ON IT OR MAY BE THE OIL PUMP IS IS GOING OUT? THERE IS A SPRING IN THE PUMP THAT IS A BYPASS FOR HOW HIGH PSI IT MAY HAVE BROKE THAT WILL GIVE YOU LOW PSI.

Sounds like the engine bearings (crankshaft) are worn. Try using a heavyer grade of oil, unless you want to rebuild the engine.

SOURCE: changed oil pressure switch, still no oil pressure

The fuel pump on that model runs through the oil pressure switch so that if the truck looses oil pressure,It kills power to the fuel pump to prevent engine damage.you need to find the cause of the low oil pressure reading(possibly a bad oil switch). That would be the cheapest place to start,or have it checked with a mechanical gauge.Good luck,

Have ticking sound when idling goes away when given gas. Checked oil it's okay think it's a stuck lifter if so how can this be fixed it's on 95 Nissan pathfinder

I had lifter tick in my 300zx and added Rislone engine treatment. Worked great. Give that a try. Make sure your oil is clean. Might be worth doing an oil change then adding the Rislone, per the directions. See if that helps before doing any more serious work.

Replace lifters

First how many miles on the vehicle and how long was the car run low on oil? Most cars today have an integrated fuel pump that will shut off if the engine is low on oil. Most likely you have either gotten some dirt into the lifters causing the noise so I would start with a fresh oil change and filter and add a good oil additive to help clean the insides of the engine. I personally like Rislone products because I have had good luck with them but any good additive that quiets lifters will have a detergent to help clean the lifter and help prevent lifter bleed-down.

Chevy 2005 4x4 silverado low oil pressure replaced oil sending unit and the cluster 137000miles no noise from engine

By the time you hear noise from the engine it will be too late for that engine. You may need an oil pump replacement. Have a mechanic check the oil pressure. It's cheaper than replacing the engine.

Chevy 2005 silverado low oil pressure replaced oil sending unit and the cluster no noise from engine

Put a gage in the sending unit hole and see if the oil pump is weak, that is the best way to tell if the engine pump is ok.

2005 Chevy silverado oil pressure guage is on zero , oil level is fine, changed sending unit with no result,

check the filter,, if its bad enough your oil won't pass through it, making it look like your oil is full, but its not moving, Chevy's have whats known as a stepper motor also on the oil gauge,, whats bad about that is if thats gone bad, you have to replace the whole gauge cluster which last time I checked is 250.00

Low oil pressure doen't mean low in oil, it means low in pressure. Dump one quart oil and add one quart of RISLONE for oil.

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that is making a rattling/ticking noise under the hood and I cannot figure out what it is! We did an oil change and added Rislone, it quieted it some but not...

how many miles on it,sounds like lifter noise which is normal for high mileage jeeps, but if you have over 140k it is not a good idea to run synthetic oils as they are thinner than conv oil and it might start to consume oil.

I have an '02 jeep wrangler. Straight 6, 4.0 L

if this vehicle has a high millage then you have worn bearing if the oil pressure go's to low then this would be the problem, if not then you should have your lifters replaced but check oil pressure if the noise comes back when the oil pressure drops then you need to over haul your engine. if this information has been useful please let use know good luck

Lifter ticking when I start my 1999 Chevy Tahoe

Your lifters have become clogged over the years. Its only after the oil warms up and thins out does it allow oil to "pump up" the lifters. That's why it goes quiet after 5 min. There are several different brands of additives on the market that can fix this problem ,unless you have a more serious mechanical problem, which I doubt.Check your local auto parts store for the additive. Just add it to your oil and "wham!" problem solved. Good Luck!

The first thing you should do is change the oil filter. No matter how old it is. If that doesn't work repost.
