SOURCE: 92 Miata transmission shift boot replacement

The lower shifter boot is attached to the transmission by 3 10mm bolts. You will need to remove to center consoule and the upper shift boot that attaches to the car to be able to remove the lower boot. Then you can replace the lower boot.

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The accordion type plastic housing that moves with the gear shift is broke. What is that part called, and how do I replace it?

I assume you mean the pieces that slide along with your automatic transmission's shifter? Those are called blinds, they're part of your shifter bezel.

To replace your bezel, you have to remove your center console. It's only nine screws. Here's a good writeup on the process: http://www.wjjeeps.com/console.htm

That thin slot you speak of is actually a clip. If you put a small flat screwdriver behind it and pull towards front of car, it will slide out and shifter knob comes right off.

2005 chrsyler 300... Car starts, but gear shift stuck in park. Help!

You don't need a shifter assembly. Inside your console is a small "pink" plastic lever that has a spring attached that locks the shifter in park. The small "pink" plastic piece where the spring is attached breaks off. Mine broke off at 45000 miles. Billet technologies makes a aluminum replacement for about $60.00 that won't wear out. The Chrysler forum has pictures and detailed instructions on the replacement procedure.

Car will start right up but will not go into gear

There is a possibility that the plastic pieces that allow the shifter to move and slide have broken. You need to remove the console shroud and pieces to be able to see the shifter. There should be two pieces of plastic usually pink or yellow in color with a spring attatched (the spring depresses when the button on the shifter is pressed). Sometimes these plastic pieces break and blocks the shifter from moving.

You can get a factory service manual with complete removal instructions and pictures from here. 2005 Dodge Magnum Service Manual.

Having troble with chrysler 300

It may be the plastic pieces that are connected to the shifter, they have been known to break easily and render the shifter stuck in place. To check this part, you must remove the center console pieces and when you get to the shifter you will see two pink pieces of plastic, if one of these pieces are broken removing it will let the shifter move, but it will slide easily of course so be careful. The part is inexpensive from the dealer and easy to replace. If you need assistance removing the console without breaking or snapping your panels, get a service manual from Promanuals.net, here is link to your 2005 Chrysler 300. It will give you easy step by step instructions on removing and replacing.

2005 Mustang Automatic Shifter

The solution is that you must purchase the complete shift housing because it is all one piece and you can't just replace part of it.The dealer told me this is about $250.00 U.S. and it can be replaced by an intermediate skilled tinkerer. For right now I just live with the inconvenience as I can pretty much guess what gear Im in.
