disconnect the electrical connections and fuel lines and vent lines at the tank then disconnect the fuel filler hose from the tank. support the tank then undo the fuel tank straps then lower the tank down to the ground. be careful as the tank will be heavy depending on how much gas is in it. clean the area around the sending unit. there is a lock ring that holds the sending unit assembly in the tank that needs to be removed then you can pull out the unit. at the bottom of the sending unit is the fuel filter. follow the instructions that came with the new fuel pump.
it is about time to replace the fuel filter at 16k miles.
You have to disconnect the whole fuel pump-sending unit module from underneath the rear passenger seat, empty the fuel line by starting the engine with the fuel pump disconnected till it stalls, disconnect fuel lines to and from the fuel filter (which you located), remove filter from its holder, replace it, re attach fuel lines, re connect fuel pump module, and you should be good to go. A final word of advice: whenever working with fuel, disconnect your car battery. Also after doing this procedure check for any fuel leaks while the engine is running.
Your ecu is most likely the problem if it is bad it wont send power to the fuel pump. You can check it by turning on the ignition then listen for noise coming from fuel tank. You should be able to hear the fuel pump come on.
The Fuel Level Sending Unit, or Fuel Level Sensor, is located in your gas tank with the Fuel Pump Module. The fuel gauge sending unit (fuel level sensor) is attached to the side of the fuel pump module. The sending unit consists of a float, an arm, and a variable resistor track (card).
The Fuel Pressure Regulator is located within fuel pump module. The fuel pressure regulator controls fuel system pressure. The PCM cannot detect a clogged fuel pump inlet filter, clogged in-line fuel filter, or a pinched fuel supply or return line. However, these could result in a rich or lean condition causing the PCM to store an oxygen sensor or fuel system diagnostic trouble code.
Both of these sensors are connected with the Fuel Pump Module. Here is a diagram:
the fuel pump is in the gas tank and the fule filter runs along the bottom of the Driver side..if your looking at the gas tank follow the gas lines that go toward Eng. you will see the Fuel filter
Be sure this procedure is done in a well ventilated area.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Relieve the fuel pressure.
Remove the rear seat cushion.
Remove the floor service hole cover.
Disconnect the electrical fuel pump wiring at the fuel pump
assembly. Check for any fuel leakage while in there.

the pump/bracket assembly.
Remove the nut and spring washer, then disconnect the wires from
the pump bracket.
Remove the sending unit attaching screws, then remove the unit
from the bracket.
Pull the lower side of the fuel pump from the bracket.
Unplug the connector to the fuel pump.
Disconnect the hose from the pump.
Separate the filter from the pump. Use a small screwdriver to
remove the attaching clip.
Inspect all of the lines, hoses and fittings for any sign of
corrosion, wear or damage to the surfaces. Check the pump outlet hose
and the filter for restrictions.
When reassembling, ALWAYS replace the sealing gaskets with new
ones. Also replace any rubber parts showing any sign of deterioration.
To install:
Install the pump filter using a new clip. Install the rubber
cushion under the filter.
Connect the outlet hose to the pump, then attach the pump to the
bracket and tighten to 22-25 ft. lbs. (29-34 Nm).
Engage the connector to the fuel pump.
Install the fuel sending unit to the pump bracket.
Install the fuel pump and bracket assembly onto the tank. Use new
gaskets. Tighten the pump bracket retaining screws to 34 inch lbs. (4
Nm).
Connect the return hoses to the pump bracket.
Install the service hole cover, then the engage the fuel pump and
sending unit connector.
Install the rear seat cushion.
Start the engine and check carefully for any sign of leakage
around the tank and lines. Road test the vehicle for proper operation.

I hope helps whit this (remember rated this help) Good luck.
1. Relieve the fuel pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. If not already removed, depress the clips on each end of the rear seat cushion and remove the cushion.
3. If not already done, detach the electrical connector from the fuel pump/sending unit.
4. Remove the attaching screws from the fuel pump/sending unit access cover and remove the cover.
5. Disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the fuel pump/sending unit.
6. Remove the attaching screws and the fuel pump/sending unit from the fuel tank.
7. Detach the sending unit electrical connector, remove the sending unit attaching nuts and remove the sending unit from the fuel pump assembly.
To install:
1. Attach the sending unit to the fuel pump assembly and install the nuts. attach the sending unit electrical connector.
2. Install the fuel pump/sending unit into the fuel tank with a new gasket and install the mounting screws.
3. Connect the fuel supply and return lines.
4. Install the access cover and the mounting screws.
5. Attach the sending unit electrical connector.
6. Position the rear seat cushion over the floor, making sure to align the retaining pins with the clips. Push down firmly until the two retaining pins are locked into the rear seat retaining clips.
7. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine and check for proper system operation and for fuel leaks.
