wonder if it is alternator . Would suggest testing output voltage of alternator when running . Check for 13.4 volts also if not a sealed battery check level of water in battery cells .
Is the battery light lit on the insturment cluster ? The heavy gage wire on the back of the alternator should have B+ voltage , Both wires in the two wire connector should also have B+ voltage . Without battery voltage at any of these the alternator will not work .
Sounds like alternator,if you can drive to Autozone,they will test both for free,takes just a minute,or remove and take up there,are your belts good and tight.Fusible link not burnt up.
No it may also have a bad or blocked cat though. It sounds like the alternator needs to be replaced or that the belt may be stretched or broken therefore not doing anything.
If you have to charge the battery every night, the most likely cause is a drain. Dirty and loose cables may be a possible cause. I would cleand tighten and replace any bad cables. Check all connections alt starter and battery. Question when it does not start does it make any niose? if it makes a single click and you try again and it will eventually catch your starter contacts amy be worn out. If you can check for a drain. Ameter positive cable removed ameter between cable and positive terminal. You should have less than 10 mili volt. Or .010 amps.
Your alternator output normally should fall around 14 volts to deliver a charge to your car battery. Car batteries can easily adapt to 2V, 10V and 50V from a battery charger and likewise an upgrade from 12V to 14V output would not hurt anything.
hi im sorry to tell you this never ever disconnect the battery while the car is running , could cause surge which will blow the alternator at
best at worst it could fry the ECU (computer)
WHY would you want to disconnect battery while the engine is running or is there something im missing here?
