Just try to get the stereo supply directly from the battery, don't forget to put fuse on it..otherwise check if there were any relays from the stereo supply..check if it needs to be replace for higher wattage/amp..

Yikes Dude this sounds scary I had a similar issue in my grand prix, my stereo sound would just cut out when my abs light came on. I had my friend the electrician take a look at my stereo wiring and the abs wiring and apparently there was like 2 different grounds hitting each-other. Personally I am no good with electronics but I would just suggest as he told when I have electrical gremlins take the device in question and follow all the wires to find breaks cracks and or bare rubbing wires.
It is telling you there is something wrong with the power steering system. It cuts the stereo to draw your attention to the warning light.
Check the level of the power steering fluid is correct.
obviously it may have to do with the installation of the new stereo, while installing some fuse may have blown or wires are cut or wires were not put back in order.
Either...
bad stereo or bad installment if its after market. if so they might tapped into the headlight circuit and when you tunr on the lights it deprives the stereo power.
I have the same problem with my stereo in my '98 Blazer. in the manuel there is instructions on how to reset the stereo. it's a lenghty process, but it normally works until you turn the stereo off.
