Sounds like a computer problem or improper part installation. Did you replace any parts or add aftermarket components to your car. Some parts can fit and look identical to the original, but my contain or be missing diodes monitoring circuits and the like that can effect computer control. newer alternators are notorious for this.

SOURCE: door locks and power window

Just did this procedure I got from coloradofans.com forums:

"any type of power/voltage change seems to trigger this issue

The most common symptom is power locks fail and only the driver window quits, however that is on the extended cab.

Steps to fix and it works every time.

take door panel off driver's door
Disconnect the wiring attached to window and power lock control unit
disconnect battery cables
connect the negative to the positive cable(((NO BATTERY CONNECTED)))
This will act to short residual voltage in the system

5 minutes later
place the key in the ignition and turn to the run position
connect the wiring to the window/lock controller
connect the negative cable to the battery
then the positive
open drivers side door
turn key to the off position((do not remove yet)) you should get a series of dings through speakers telling you the key is still in the ignition
once it begins dinging pull the key out and you should hear the door lock solenoids trigger and the windows should work." - Coloradofans.com forums

How hard is it to change a smart junction box in a 2006 Ford Taurus? Or how do you test one?

What kind of problems are you having that make you think the SJB is bad ? For testing a SJB you would need a factory scan tool or some other professional type scan tool , checking DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes an input data etc.... Changing a SJB would need a visit to the dealer or someother qualified repair shop for programming .
Module Controlled Functions The smart junction box (SJB) is the only multi-function module on this vehicle.
The SJB controls a variety of systems:
  • instrument cluster warning indication and chimes
  • interior lamp control
  • automatic headlamp control
  • daytime running lamps (DRL)
  • wiper and washer (front only)
  • heated rear window
  • one-touch down power window
  • delayed accessory
  • power door locks (including SMART, autolocking and luggage compartment lid release)
  • remote keyless entry (RKE)
  • perimeter anti-theft
  • Principles of Operation
The smart junction box (SJB) constantly monitors its subsystems for concerns. If a concern is found in one of the subsystems, the SJB will record the concern in the form of a diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
The ignition switch position is very important to the SJB functionality. Erratic or unexpected SJB functions can often be traced to problems with these ignition SJB inputs.
The SJB controls a variety of systems:
    • battery saver relay
    • heated backlight
    • windshield wipers
    • interior lamps
    • remote keyless entry (RKE)
    • power lock system
    • exterior lamps
    • power windows
    • parking brake actuator warning chime
    • Inspection and Verification
      1. Verify the customer concern.
      1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage.

      Visual Inspection Chart Electrical
      • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 3 (60A)
      • Damaged wiring harness
      • Loose or corroded connector(s)
      • Circuitry
      • Smart junction box (SJB)

      1. If an obvious cause of an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
      1. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
        • check that the program card is correctly installed.
        • check the connections to the vehicle.
        • check the ignition switch position.
      1. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
      1. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
        • ISO or CAN circuits fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to Section 418-00 .
        • No response/not equipped for SJB, Go To Pinpoint Test A .
        • System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
      1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.
      1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, refer to the appropriate section of the Workshop Manual to continue diagnosis.

4x4 don't work no indicator light on dash

Did you check for codes in GEM module ?
Many system components are involved in the proper operation of the ESOF hubs. Before diagnosing the hublocks themselves as the cause of 4X4 concerns, be sure to verify all related system components.
After removing the hublock retaining ring be sure not to use tools other than hands or "grip" gloves to remove the hublock, as damage may occur to either the paint or the function of the hublock. Pliers or locking Channel-Locks® should be considered as a last resort, and will usually damage the hublock, making it necessary to install a new hublock.

Inspection and Verification - Electronic Shift
  1. Visually inspect for the following obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
  • Hublocks
    • installed
    • correct type
  • Axle shafts and universal joints
  • Driveshaft and universal joints
  • Shift linkage
  • Fluid leaks
  • Matching tire size
  • Vacuum harness
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse 59 (30A)
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse 27 (15A), 34 (10A)
  • 4WD control module
  • Pulse vacuum hublock (PVH) solenoid
  • Wiring harness
  • Mode select switch (MSS)
  • Gearmotor encoder assembly
  • Connector(s)
  • Shift relays
  • Circuitry

  1. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  1. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
  1. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section 418-00 .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for 4WD control module, Go To Pinpoint Test D .
    • NOTE: To carry out the 4WD control module self-test for Excursion requires the headlamps to be in the OFF position. All others require the headlamps to be in the ON position. SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out the 4WD control module self-test.
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the 4WD control module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, carry out the electronic shift function test. Refer to Function Test - Electronic Shift in this section.

Have a 2006 Chevy Malibu with about 67000 miles on it and the engine symbol on the dash came on and did not go off, what does this mean?

It means it's time for some diagnostic work. Something either mechanical or electrical has failed and the computer has detected it.

I am looking for port to use OBD II tool I can not seem to find it. Any idea where I can find it?

On GM and Fords it's on the lower left hand corner of the dashboard, underneath the dash. You may have to look closer to find it.
There may be a plastic cap on it concealing it from view.

It should be there:

Diagnostic Link Connector Fig. 1: The OBD-II compliant Data Link Connector (DLC) is located under the driver's side of the instrument panel 91144p39.jpg
Fig. 2: A Tech 1® , or equivalent scan tool must be used to retrieve codes from the 16-pin DLC connector 88254gc8.gif
These vehicles are equipped with a Data Link Connector (DLC) which is the 16-pin connector that you attach the scan tool to read and/or clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). The DLC is located under the driver's side of the instrument panel. prev.gif next.gif

Cannot find the code connector 1995 Ram 1500

The data link connector is a dedicated diagnostic scan tool connector. It is located in the engine compartment against the fire wall. It links the engine controller to the Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBII) scan tool or the Mopar Diagnostic System (MDS), or any other Chrysler-compatible diagnostic scan tool.
