SOURCE: 98 dodge caravan 3 liter ticks on cold start,

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE STICKY LASH ADJUSTER(LIFTER)..MANY MILES ON IT?HAVE YOU BEEN GOOD TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER?TRY CHANGING THE OIL AND FILTER AND ADDING AN OIL SUPPLEMENT ..IF THIS DOESN'T WORK,YOU WILL HAVE TO ISOLATE WHICH BANK OF ENGINE NOISE IS COMING FROM,REMOVE VALVE COVER AND YOU CAN TO SEE WHICH ONE(S) ARE MAKING NOISE..PUSH DOWN ON EACH ROCKER ARM..A BAD ONE WILL BE SOFT..A GOOD ONE WILL BE HARD..NO LASH..TO REPLACE..YOU REMOVE ROCKER SHAFT BOLTS AND ROCKER SHAFTS..YOU CAN PURCHASE ONLY THE ONE(S) YOU NEED..BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE ROCKER SHAFTS..THE LIFTERS CAN FALL OUT..GET A STICKY GREASE TO HOLD THEM IN ROCKER ARMS DURING REASSEMBLY..I HOPE THIS HELPS

It sounds like you could have a faulty engine coolant temprature sensor ,best to get a diagnostic check on it.

SOURCE: how do you replace a fuel pump on a 85 dodge d50

Um if your engine is fuel injection then fuel pump could be locate inside the fuel tank. you will need to take fuel tank off to get that fuel pump out from top of tank. If its not fuel injection then fuel pump could be locate in right side engine block, all you need to unbolt 2 of them. and closed the fuel line with paper towel or something to plug in.. then change the pump.

I have and 86 pontiac 6000 and i just changed all the throttle body gasgets and the car is idleing to high

Hello Mary Roussell,

IF the HIGH IDLE is a new condition (post gasket)

You need to look at all ends of the throttle cable
and make sure the CABLE SHEATH in FULLY
SEATED at the ends... Most likely the end that was
slack where you were working (but ALSO check
inside the firewall (top of the accelerator peddle).

HOWEVER... if the word "STILL"...
As in "STILL... idling to high"... was left out

You are looking at the NOTORIOUS GM
cold IDLE valve** issue... It is famous for making
FI cars with automatic trannys to STALL

Check TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS (39 TSBs)
at BBB Industries website (FREE, registration required).
((contains CRITICAL throttle specifications as well)).

Note:
** cold IDLE valve mimics the CHOKE function.

High idle on 86 Ford Bronco II (2.9L). Have replaced IAC, TPS and ECT. Also checked all vacuum lines. No fix. Need help.

I have heard of coolant sensors staying cold and keeping idle high but not a particular model.

Idles high,jumps high and low,cleaned throttle body,and still idles high,will come down but takes a minute or two,what could it beits a 2004,mag. v 8 ,4.7 liter

disconnect the negative battery clamp, and leave it off for 5-10 minutes-resets the computer and forces it to relearn the sensors-if the problem continues, your idle air control or the throttle position sensor are prime suspects.

Have you checked the idle control sensor? Have you adjusted the idle? It may be a bad map sensor. Usually, if it is a map sensor, it will dies occasionally.

89 dodge shadow. hard start. normal idle cold, fast idle warm. sometimes it wont start until i hear fuel pump activate.

Hello,
The car may be hard to start because it may need a normal tune-up. If the spark plugs are pretty used, they will slowly stop burning as much fuel because the spark slowly gets lesser and lesser. On a cold day the fuel is harder to ignite with a small amount of spark.
Normal idle when its cold means that your cars idle is probably too high. If you lower the idle, the choke on a cold day will keep the idle a little higher until the motor warms and then it will kick back off. If the idle is too high, it will run very rich, smothering itself with fuel, and causing the idle to stay low. When the car warms, its creating better spark when its warm, and with the idle being too high its running at a fast idle.
The car wont start sometimes can be the cause of a few things. If the ground is bad on the fuel pump, it wont make a good connection sometimes for when you turn the key on, the fuel pump dont pump the fuel to the engine. Another one can be that your accessory switch can be loose going to the fuel pump. I think its your ground though. Good luck! Hope this helps.
Have a nice day. -Steve

Car idles too high and dies

The later 80's accords have a problem with idling being to high at start up, even when the ambient air temp does not warrant it. I have had a 86 and now an 87 accord and both did that. I pretty much deal with it, being as you cant hardly replace indiv carb parts. Adjusting the idle will do nothing to stop it either. I took my 86 to a shop when I still had it and he fixed it, but I cant remember what all he did. I know he drilled a couple small holes in the choke plate. I think that the thermowax valve is bad, but again, you cannot find just a thermowax valve or anybody who knows what it is. Replacement carb in my area is about $450. Like I said, you might just have to learn to live with a high idle at start up.
