90 Toyota 4Runner pinging noise

Recently my vehicle has lost power and a strange pinging and knocking noise. I replaced spark plugs & wires, cap & rotor, traced some wiring and everything seems to be ok except that NOISE.

Hi the pinging you here is ignition firing before it should but if you have a knocking noise i would suspect the worse but try doing a compression test first see if everything is in order then if this seems ok have you put fuel in it just before it started if so change your fuel if not see if the electrical system has a knock sensor if so run the engine and tap the block close to it see if engine revs drop if not replace but the knock is a piston best of luck yates210456

How do you know if knock sensor is bad

  • Knock sensors measure engine vibration caused by pre-ignition
  • When not replaced, vehicle may experience engine ping or knock, high emissions, poor fuel economy, internal engine damage and/or CEL/MIL illumination

1990 toyota 4runner knocking noise from air intake will turnover but wont start

Knocking noise in the air intake or do you mean a lifter noise, because you let it sit the lifter are not charged up or solidified,so you dont get adequate compression when you turn it over.if you have fuel and spark thats fine what about compression, noise from the air intake make me wonder if the timing belt is intacted.

I have a 1990 toyota 4runner sr5! There is a black and white wire that goes to the starter that has power to it! Half way down this wire there is an encased diode or something and another wire comes up...

Check this wiring diagrams...

1990 4runner V6 3.0L Manual. Loss of power on any incline, hesitates(jumps) when slowing down or speeding up from a low rpm and makes a weird squirrely ticking sound when excellerating...help me?!?!!

Do a major tune-up on the 4Runner....new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. The ticking very well could be from using a poor grade of gasoline, however, not necessarily the octane. This is also known as pinging or knocking. The tune-up may help this as well. Try a quality grade of gas, Shell, Exxon, Chevron, Texaco, Mobile etc....

Knocking until car warms up

Sounds like a lifter noise. worn lifters can't keep oil in them anymore so over night the oil leaks out. when you start the vehicle, you will hear a ticking noise or knocking noise till the lifters fill with oil again. only remedy is to replace the lifters.
you could try an additive but it's temporary.

Toyota 4runner wil not start

Check the Spark plugs, starter, or the battery wires. It depends on if it is trying to turn over or if its not doing anything at all. If its trying to turn over then its most likely your starter or spark plugs or could simply be its getting too much air due to a leak. If Its not doing anything at all no clicking nothing then its probably a problem with the battery wires. If its just making a clicking noise then its yoru starter.
