sounds like a direct short in wireing harness. Check your wires real good for burt or worn .

the motor is a straight 4 cylinder, 2.35 liter / probably poor description of "motor"
something is activating on top of the motor when connecting the battery cable, truck does not turn over. the noise sounds like an electric vibration...on top of the motor.

Steve: Tell me what engine is in the Max? Can you identify the "motor" you mention...by physical location on the engine?...Lastly, when you turn the key are you saying the starter motor does not run?...Guru...saailer

Steve: Step #1...Pull the Engine Control Relay (ECR)...Then connect (-) battery terminal and see if the noise stops...Step #2...If it does check the Brown wire in the ignition switch for the presence of 12 volts with the key off and the ECR out...Conclusion; If the noise stops with the ECR pulled and there IS NOT battery on the Brown wire the ECR is defective...With the ECR out and there IS 12 volts on the Brown wire the Ignition Switch is the culprit....
i can not send drawings or photos from the comment location (I have no idea why)...Go to my website to Recent Solutions Page three...saailer

Hello! This was the original procedure...Steve: Step #1...Pull the Engine Control Relay (ECR)...Then connect (-) battery terminal and see if the noise stops...Step #2...If it does check the Brown wire in the ignition switch for the presence of 12 volts with the key off and the ECR out...Conclusion; If the noise stops with the ECR pulled and there IS NOT battery on the Brown wire the ECR is defective...With the ECR out and there IS 12 volts on the Brown wire the Ignition Switch is the culprit...

.What is on that Brown wire with the ECR pulled? That is the step I do not see...Since you changed both components without checking for 12 volts on that wire the problem is the Brown wire is shorted to 12 volts somewhere in the harness...Pull the ECR and with key off there should not be voltage on that lead...That is what I need to know...If thee is send a comment...saailer
