Hi,
I have a 94 ford f150 with a 302. Recently the tranny quit shifting into drive and overdrive, it will just stay in first gear. If i downshift it and run thru the gears manually it will go thru first and second but not drive or overdrive. The check engine light comes on and off, so not wanting to do any damage or get stuck I took the truck home and parked it. Now, 3 days later I go out to work on it and it wont even start. Could this be a computer prolem? Or 2 seperate problems that occurred around the same time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your transmission fluid contain water, thats why the colour of the fluid changed to pink. And of such the clutch is slipping causing the engine to reve up before shifting - Check transmission cooler.

sure it was the tranny and not the accuwaiter switch gone bad on you .smell to see if the fluid has a burnt smell to it .did it show signs of it going .was it wet out that day ? would it go into reverse it should have had something .was the levels right up on it and was it top up with mercon5 not with something else ?

HI !!! there usully one problem w/ this when thoesnt shfti right from firs to the second also takes more time is the Solenoid Pack in Rey. have computer tested and it wil tell you which has to be changr all this work inside the trnsmsion
SOURCE: escape will not go above 60mph and will not downshift w/gas pedal
It could very well be a restriction in the exhaust like a stopped up cat converter. I doubt if it is a torque converter, that may make it slow to get to speed but shouldn't effect hwy speeds.
You can check this vehicle for an exhaust restriction very easy by going to the DPFE sensor and measuring exhaust back pressure with a vacuum/pressure gage. It will be either silver or black in color will have 2 rubber hoses hooked to it going down to metal tubes that hook into the exhaust. It will have a 3 wire connector with the color of the wires being BN/WH,BN/LG,OG. Disconnect one of the rubber hoses from the sensor and hook the vacuum/pressure gage into the hose. You should have less than 1 psi at idle, then press accel to wide open throttle and take a reading,it should be no higher than 3-4 psi. Anything more is an exhaust restriction.

you have JUST described my situation to a T !! SAME truck SAME problem ,for me it started about a month ago(she's a daily driver) at first disconnecting the battery for 10 mins and reconnecting (re sets computer) would work i even got 3rd and over drive back .That no longer works she's dead in the driveway. I know it's prob. a relay or other ignition problem tied in with the trans (the torque converter area had been previously progressively making noise.)but i dont have a clear understanding of this ignition system. the haynes manual list 3 diff. set-up and mods .i think i have mine identified but don't have testers for some and not sure where i can pick-up spark later in the system using conventional means. I was hoping maybe you had some luck figuring this FORD CURSE out!lol It's christmas and theres15" of snow outside.
Jesus i'm going through this right now myself!!! It's driving me insane!!!What the hell no body knows whats going on???
