I replaced the battery and now the batt indicator light is on. do i have to have the dealer reset the computer to solve the problem

If this doesnt work theres a reset tool you can buy at most auto part stores $25-$40

    • 1 Turn your key to position 2 to power on the battery or turn the key all the way to start the engine on. Either option will allow you to reset the service indicator.
    • 2 Press either of the two buttons on the left side of your steering wheel featuring arrows pointing to the left and right to find the menu displaying the mileage. The menu options will appear on the screen underneath the speedometer.
    • 3 Press either the up or down arrow button until you see the service symbol displayed.
    • 4 Press the trip odometer reset button on the left side of the instrument panel for three seconds until the menu asks, "Do you want to reset the service interval? Confirm with the R-button."
    • 5 Press the trip odometer reset button again to complete the reset process.

    newer models come with an auxiliary battery in addition to the main battery. You might need the auxiliary battery as I did. Dealer cost about $54.00 and sits next to the main battery at least my 07 ML 350. It is located under the front passanger sit, it is very easy to replace.

Navigation system not de-energizing following shut down of car
well the first thing we do is a battery hard reset. turn all off, discnt batt both cables wait 5min then reconnect. the reason both cables are discnted is so they will reach together after battery is disconnected. be very careful not to spark the battery. and always use battery bought from infiniti due to these large capacity battery's the dealer sells for around 100 bucks have additional reserve capacity (really important) not found in most batteries and they come with 84mo lmtd warranty that includes 12 mo of batt related roadside! buy and install yourself for 100 bucks.

How do you reset the computer on an 03 spectra? After replacing the batt. I have several dash lights on and there is no problem. Did not have this till the batt. was replaced.
try using a fault scanner to reset the cpu program that is corrupted by the battery change.

I would have everything tested first. Thats usually free at most auto part stores. It does sound like your alternator is starting to fail or possibly your battery.

97 checvy astro 4.3 6cyl. I replaced battery, Starter and the batt wont hold a charge. Is it possible to check the wiring from the alt to the starter without having to remove the alternator?
Yes, If you have a volt meter, jump and start engine, with engine running you should have approx 13.5 to 14.2volts that would tell me that batt is getting charged when engine is running. you said new batt would not hold a charge, I would be thinking about a parasitic draw(small amount of power) that in time will drain batt. things to look for are glove box lights, under hood lights that dont turn off. one easy way too see if you have a draw is to disconnect one batt cable, now use a regular (12volt non-self powered) test light and touch one end to batt cable and the other to empty batt terminal, with no light switches on and doors closed, this test light should not light and if it does then you have a drain on batt that will kill it say overnight.

All you have to do is remove the battery terminals from the battery for 15 min. and the reinstall them and your computer is reset.

This solution may be too late but will help others with same problem.
The E30 series have 2 rechargeable batteries on the (Service Indicator) SI board WHEN FITTED. located within the dash unit ( tacho/speedo/temp/fuel Unit) they have a life span of 6 years however mine lasted 17years not bad for a rechargeable batt
anyway back to the point the effects of a buggered batts are
  • Inconsistent taco and temp guages
  • background radio noise (old model radios)
  • and THE INABILITY TO TURN SERVICE LIGHTS OFF !
The batts can be found in CONRAD (germany) MAPLIN (uk)
the cos of the batts are approx £3
the new board costs direct from BMW with trade discount approx £200 in 2007
have fun (soldering required to replace batts) :-]
