Tip & How-To about 2003 BMW M5

Wind noise

This may sound odd but there is a recognised issue of wind noise - that "seems" to come from around the windshield area. Problem cab be caused by a missing "jacking block". Look under the body at both ends of the sill - where you are supposed to place the jack when lifting the car. there should be small retangular plastic blocks where the jack goes. these are held onto the body with a part of the block that sticks up into a small hole in the body. If one or more of those blocks is missing apparently the air russing past the open hole in the body is heard as wind noise around the windshield. Otherwise be suspecious of the sunroof - close the interior panel and see if the problem changes. And of course make sure the windows are all the way up. Sometimes when unlocking the passenger doors you accidently activate the opening of the windows - for a fraction of a second. They do not look open but they are down just enough that you get a wind noise.

Wind noise after windshield replaced. Won't go away.

My opinion that this windshield should be removed and re-done. A small air noise means the urethane adhesive did not make good contact with the windshield. If left undone then the mounting area could rust from water entering around windshield. God-Bless!

2006 RANGE ROVER Around 60-70 mph the car is making a noise that sounds like wind or a loud humming noise which i thought maybe a wheel bearing going bad , I took it into a garage and they said it was just a wind noise coming from somewhere , I have checked and all the seals look good , Has there been similar problems like this for this model and what is it ?

Yes, common problem the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield warps and the resultant air turbulence caused makes a howling noise especially in the 55-65 speed range. Most dealers will just tack the cowl with silicone adhesive at the area that is warped. Just look for an area where the black plastic cowl is not tight against the base of the windshield. Do not buy a new cowl as it will warp again causing the same problem to recur.

Noise from dash or windshield

I have the same problem I think it's the rubber flaps that cover the hood hinges, when the wind catches them they flap up and down it I have noticed it seems to be worse on a windy day.

1997 Lincoln Towncar noise in dashboard

Is the noise coming from wiper area when you are driving on the highway? If it is the most likley solution is to replace the plastic peice at the bottom of the windshield that goes all the way across, on the outside between windshield and hood. when the wind hits it it makes noise.

I have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. About 2 months after purchase, I noticed a whistling sound emanating from the right corner of the dash/windshield when driving 60 mph. The whistle was steadiest when driving into the wind or with a cross wind. Lately, the whistle has became much louder and begins at 55 mph. Sometimes, with a strong cross wind, it will whistle at 20 mph. Any suggestions?

Hi, 2possible suggestions that will help you, when dealing with a wind noise it is almost always visible in the affected area by seeing a redich resedue caused by entering dust particles,

you could also use''masking'' duckt tape to seal off all your suspect areas(starting with the r/h section of the windshield) then by trail and error systematically remove piece by piece of this tape untill your noise is located, then you can decide on what to do with the ''leak''
