1998 Hyundai Elantra - Page 6 Questions & Answers
My car hyundai elantra 1998 stopped while running
It might have something to do with your mass/air sensor located on the intake tube. Try cleaning the mass air sensor with the appropriate cleaner and also try cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner.
Accelerator squeeking and internal crunching
Acc. squeek noise due to linkage issue, get it lubicated.
Regarding the clutch, you check the links, clutch plate springs condition. If there is wornout parts get it replaced. Gear shifting will be solved once you fix your clutch problems.
Brake lights are always on.
On most of your newer cars like yours the brake light switch is up next to the brake pedal. When the pedal is released, the switch is normally in the off position. It is a threaded switch to allow for adjustments and sometimes that is all that is wrong. I would check that first and if that is not the problem, the switch could be bad. Check it out before replacing it though. Good luck.
I have a 2000 hyundai elantra and the po734 cade
P0734 means that your transmission is slipping. This being the case, it is not surprising that the gas mileage is poor. You will need to have your transmission checked out professionally. Take it to a trustworthy transmission mechanic or to a dealer. Get a second opinion before you have any work done.
Air bag lit on
If the light is continuosly lit that indicates a fault in the SRS system have it checked by a shop you trust or the dealer
What is the firing order on the 1.6 engine
To the best of my knowledge the 1998 Hyundai Elantra has only a 1.8L (1796cc) engine. Are you sure on the 1.6L?
For the 1.8L:
Firing Order:
1-3-4-2
Cylinders:
(back of engine)
1-----2-----3-----4
(front of engine)
Ignition Connections:
(back)
o<---1
o<---4
o<---3
o<---2
(front)
As far as the markings on the outside of the engine, I'm not aware of any. However, by placing markings (white paint) on the Crankshaft Pulley (lip) and using the Timing Strobe you can get a relative idea. However this is not totally accurate, as the Camshaft Position is not visible. With a 4-Cylinder Timing symptoms will be very obvious.
Click on the following Link. It has the Timing Marking Diagrams for the inside of the engine.
