Now let me say, that when the gauge quits, it is more often a fault in the sending unit in the gas tank, and not the gauge. Here is how to find out if your gauge is good: Find the fuel tank electrical connector, and pull it apart. You will need a small jumper wire. Find the blue wire in the body side of the connector (not the fuel tank side). Put the jumper wire into the blue wire terminal, turn the ignition key to on not start, and ground the jumper wire to a metal frame piece. Someone needs to watch the fuel gauge needle while the wire is grounded. If the gauge in the dash is good, the needle will move. It will probably go to either full or empty, but if the needle moves, the gauge is good and the fault is in the sending unit in the tank. Don't give up testing until you are sure the jumper wire is being grounded good to the frame. Just touch the wire to frame and watch the needle movement, once sure, stop so you don't blow the fuse. If the needle doesn't move, first check the 10 amp meter fuse. If fuse is good, it must be the gauge.

Try this: Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter. Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine.

• Check the battery the simple way, like this:

Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.

• Check the starter and solenoid:

If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking). If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's bendix gear is stuck. Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck bendix gear.

• Make a simple test of the alternator:

If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

Well as it is running I would start looking for either a vacuum in the wrong place or not hooked up at all and definately make sure all ground wires and back where they need to be but either way start with a big vacuum leak if no then it appears the throttle position sensor switch is most likely installed wrong or you need to do a complete TPS reset so it will re learn the proper idle speed also look to see that a wire or something else is not binding the throttle linkage forcing the rpms to high. Makes sure you start with the most likely reason then go from there. And If I can help further just ask

run the fault codes to find out if any damage was done when the battery was disconnected while running It is an alternator , not a generator and doing what you did is a good way of damaging the whole charging system

check for codes, check fuel pressure, check injector function, check O2 sensor readings, check for vacuum leaks, check MAP sensor readings. just some places to start.

Interesting enough, That one seems to have turned out to be reliable. However, the fuse is called a Meter fuse and is in the fuse box under the dash to the left, and on the side of the vehicle. You have to pull open the door to the box. The vehicle also has a dimmer control on the dash. you have to push it for it to pop out. It is then adjustable.

Hi you will find the switch usually on top of the gearbox/transmission near where the gear select linkage is located. Regards Jim...

Replacing the clutch plate only sometimes doesn't help you should have replaced the clutch pressure plate too, best is to fit the clutch pro-kit (clutch plate, clutch pressure plate and release bearing).
I guess now you will have to just replace the clutch pressure plate and the release bearing.

Yes it is an interference engine, so you could have damage to the valves if the timing belt breaks while the engine is running.

wow 8 month old post. im new , taking on unanswerd check engine lights. heres what you need to do .if your light is still on or you have it come on in the future. take it to an auto parts store .like advanced auto or auto zone etc etc. those stores check your code for free .ask for a print out of the code and what the code means ,example p0103 mass air flow out voltage malfuntion . also ask for a list of possible truoble shooting tips if you post on fixya post with codes .( like the example ) hopefully one of the experts will jump right on it
