2000 Kia Sportage Ignition Switch Removal

My daughter broke the Key off in her ignition, and after removing the parts around the ignition switch, I cannot figure out how the ignition switch can be removed to get the broken key out. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

if you go buy a new switch you may understand this better. but here goes the bolts that hold the switch to the colum are antitheft. the bolt head will brake off when you tighten them. you should have cone shaped round bolts holding the switch on. you will need a chisel and hammer to get the old ones out. good luck. hope this is helpful. you need to see the new bolts. that come with the new switch to fully understand.

2000 kia sportage ex, 4 cyl.

Our 2000 Kia Sportage runs rough when stopped or slow many times, other times it does not run rough at all, when idling at a stop sign etc.
Is their a sensor that controls gas to air ratio or should I try something else.
Kia Sportage 2000,EX, 4 cyl., 2 litre, 4 wheel drive.
I thank you for your help.

Yes there is a sensor that controls Fuel/air ratio. It's called a MAF (mass air flow sensor)
But I think you should have the EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation)valve checked
and The TPS (throttle position sensor)maybe dirty.

Although may things can cause this issue,I would look at the items above first.

2001 Kia Sportage won't start

Hello,
I have a 2001 Kia Sportage. It was running fine until 4 days ago when it just wouldn't start one morning.. The starter turns over but it will not start like it's not getting any gas. I changed the fuel pump with a brand new one, but it still won't start. I checked the fuse box and the one for the fuel pump is fine. Could it be the relay?

what is the timing marks for a 2000 kia sportage?

Answer

the timing marks are as follows... if you are not able to see the picture the intake cam gear will line up with the mating mark on the rear cover .... the "I" needs to be straight up... the exhaust cam the E needs to be straight up. the crankshaft mark is a nothch in the rear of the crank gear which needs to line up with a pointer on the front of the aluminum oil pump housing. the keyway on the crank needs to be vertical. the marks on the rear cover are dimples in the cover. this is an interferance engine DO NOT ROTATE CRANK OR CAMS WITH BELT OFF. IF YOU HAVE BROKEN THE TIMING BELT DAMAGE TO ENGINE HAS ALREADY OCCURED AND YOU WILL NEED A VALVE JOB!!!! there is no exception on this engine. if you have tried to crank it over and the belt is broken the head is no good!

WARNING On interference engines, it is very important to replace the timing belt at the recommended intervals, otherwise expensive engine damage will likely result if the belt fails.
Removal & Installation
2.0L (DOHC) Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove the alternator drive belt.
  4. Remove the fresh air duct from the top of the radiator.
  5. Remove the upper radiator hose.
  6. Remove the 4 attaching nuts to the clutch fan.
  7. Remove the 5 fan shroud bolts. Remove the fan and shroud as an assembly.
  8. Remove the 4 splash guard mounting bolts and the splash guard.
  9. Loosen the lockbolts and loosen the air conditioning drive belt.
  10. Loosen the power steering lock and mounting bolt. Remove the power steering belt.
  11. Remove the 5 upper timing belt cover bolts and remove the cover.
  12. Remove the 2 lower timing belt cover bolts and remove the cover.
  13. Align the timing marks.
NOTE When aligning the cam pulleys with the seal plate marks, align the left cam pulley I mark and the right cam pulley on the E mark.
WARNING When aligning the timing marks, do not turn the timing gear counterclockwise. Damage to the engine will occur.
  14. Loosen the tensioner bolt. Pry the tensioner away from the belt. Tighten the tensioner bolt to relieve the pressure against the timing belt.
  15. Remove the timing belt.
  16. Remove the camshaft pulley attaching bolts. Use a driver placed through one of the holes in the pulley to prevent it from moving when the attaching bolt is removed. Remove and mark the pulleys.
  17. Remove the lower timing belt pulley and locking bolt.

To install:
  1. Install the camshaft pulleys. Tighten the bolts to 35-48 ft. lbs. (47-65 Nm).
  2. Install the lower timing belt pulley and locking bolt. Tighten the bolt to 120 ft. lbs. (162 Nm).
  3. If necessary, align the timing marks.
NOTE When aligning the cam pulleys with the seal plate marks, align the left cam pulley -I- mark and the right cam pulley on the -E- mark.
WARNING When aligning the timing marks, do not turn the timing gear counterclockwise. Damage to the engine will occur.
  4. Loosen the tensioner bolt. Pry the tensioner away from the belt. Tighten tensioner bolt to relieve the pressure against the timing belt.
  5. Install the timing belt.
WARNING If any binding is felt when adjusting the timing belt tension by turning the crankshaft, STOP turning the engine, because the pistons may be hitting the valves.
  6. Loosen the tensioner bolt and allow the tensioner to tighten the timing belt. Tighten the tensioner bolt 27-38 ft. lbs. (37-52 Nm).
  7. Check the timing belt deflection. If there is more than 0.30-0.33 in. (7.5-8.5mm) replace the tensioner spring.
  8. Install the 2 lower timing belt cover bolts to the cover.
  9. Install the 5 upper timing belt cover bolts to the cover.
  10. Install and adjust the air conditioning and power steering drive belts.
  11. Install the splash guard.
  12. Install and tighten the alternator belt.
  13. Install the upper radiator hose.
  14. Install the fan and shroud as an assembly.
  15. Install the 4 attaching nuts to the clutch fan.
  16. Install the 5 fan shroud bolts.
  17. Install the fresh air duct to the top of the radiator.
  18. Properly fill the cooling system.
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  21. Road test the vehicle.
I hope this help you. Good luck.

What is P1624 on a kia sportage & how to fix it?

That code means their is a communication problem between the TCM (Transmission Control Module) and ECM (Electronic Control Module). The issue is normally with the TCM. but it is possible you have wiring problems. I would replace the TCM. It is located to the side of the drivers left foot.
