The alternator is not putting out enough power
The only thing to do is try tightening the belt, If you have a gauge, it should be showing more charge than it is now, after tightening. If it is just a light, it will light with no charge. You might have to replace it. Hope this helps.
Water is comming in
reseal the body seams with under coating spray would be the 1st thing i would do.
It surges when idling, and
hi the EGR would most likely trigger the engine light and you would be loosing a lot of power, very noticable, I would check your earth battery lead and ensure it has a good contact to the car body.
Also check the air pipes for any rips or poor seals that might be taking in to much air.
Worth mentioning you can clean both the air mass sensor and the EGR with carb cleaner, this sometimes helps or at least will give you an idea if thats the fault. What make and model is the car?
Have you changed both the idle control valve and the air mass sensor?

How to adjust choke on 87 honda accord
It might just need cleaning. Spray some PB Blaster around the throttle arm where the cable connects to at the base of the carb, and see if that frees up the flaps. And while spraying, fiddle with the throttle linkage.

Assuming it's a hose that goes directly to the radiator and is a more or less 2" diameter. In the parts store just ask for (depending of its position) an upper or lower radiator hose for a '87 honda accord.

Yes it does have a normal thermostsat and is most likely stuck closed.
Headlights not working.
if you have power at the head light plug or pig tail then you have a bad ground turn the head lights on and probe the ground wire with the balb still in if the lights come on the run new ground wire or find the broken wire and repair it
